This is a #PSA about cleaning fancy spray heads in kitchen faucets from #DeltaFaucet and maybe other brands.
We have a Delta Faucet in our kitchen with a fancy spray head with three settings, shown below. It was installed new a few years ago. Since then, the speed and pressure of water flowing out of the faucet has gradually gotten slower.
How much slower? Well, it turns out about 50%, as described later in the thread.

Could today finally be the day?
Could today finally be the day where we stop having water drip from our tub onto the sub-floor, which rots a hole into the sub-floor and then drips down into the cellar and screws up the cellar floor and some unfortunately placed furniture?
We have a contractor here who took out a chunk of the wall next to the tub where the water pools up to inspect the damage and he thinks he found the source of the problem and even more important, he thinks he has a fix that does not include ripping out the tub and starting over.
Oh please please please let today be the day that this ends and please please please let the fix not include ripping out our tub and starting over. I am crossing my fingers, my toes, my eyes, and even a couple of my teeth.
ADDENDUM: As I was typing this he found another possible source of the leak and he’s going to fix that too. Oh please please please let this end today.

We Survived The Window Install Adventure
That was a day. We survived the adventure of having new windows installed in our two flat. 18 windows in total between the two units.
We actually had the easy part as we moved to the basement while the crew did the hard work.
I’m not sure how the guys doing that hard work survived, but Daniel and his crew pulled it off like the professionals they are. Hot, sweaty work on a hot steamy day. They began unloading just after 7am and finished the job just before 5pm.
So, job well done. Kudos to the crew and kudos to Renewal By Anderson for every step along the way. We’re very pleased with the work.
Now that’s over, we’ll rehang some curtains and blinds, and then we’re on to new adventures for the rest of the summer.

Hey, anyone familiar with electric motors enough to tell me if I should actually be concerned about this noise from my dishwasher?
I’ve never heard _this_ thing make this kind of noise before. And I’ve swapped out both motors on this exact model of dishwasher before.
It doesn’t sound…broken. And it’s pumping. It’s just looooud.
The last time something like this happened a toothpick had blocked the recirculating pump’s impeller. But this time it’s obviously pumping.

Well crap. #HVAC is busted. AGAIN. It's been off for months and now it's suddenly randomly turning on the blower motor and turning it off. When it turns on it will stay on for hours. Weird request: any ideas for a small window prop? Need some kind of bar about 7 inches (17.8 cm) long, maybe 1 inch cross-section. (Ideally length adjustable; but not vital.)
I'm installing a bedroom air conditioner—in a vinyl window. Don't trust screws in vinyl.
With AC in, the window I want to "lock" down on the AC has about 7 inches clear for a prop above. Most people use wood; any other ideas? Online has multi adjustable window security bars: all too long.

I bought the wrong color of grout by accident, but I've been putting off repairing a crack in the shower for weeks now so I just went for it. It was an easier process than I thought it might be, and now my first attempt stands out so I can see it and re-do it in the right color when I need another project.
for now, it should keep water from getting into the wall with any luck.

I can't decide if this is exactly the right place to ask this or totally wrong. We have a 4-gang switch box where we want to place three toggles and one decorator (paddle). The only plate I can find that has this puts the decorator opening on the side, but we would like it in one of the middle slots. So, is this available somewhere I'm not seeing? Has anyone cut a 4-toggle cover to fit a rocker and did it turn out OK? #homerepair #DIY #askfedi
Rambling "How I Spent My ${DURATION}" braindump.
Last week I was carrying bags of water softener #salt into my furnace room and noticed a small #limescale deposit on the floor in the middle of the room that hadn't been there a few days before. Directly above it are a bunch of water #pipes going off in different directions. Found one 90 degree elbow that had more than the usual accumulation of green stuff on it, like a tiny #stalactite. Okay, water #leak found.
I was going to wait for the weekend to fix it, but it seemed to be speeding up, so I did it Wednesday. I had to cut a chunk of #convoluted pipe out of the system that was way more complex than it should have been. It had to go around other #pipes and join another #pipe and around some joists, but the #plumber who put this in 40 years ago had a #fetish or something. No word of a lie, it reminded me more of the Windows NT "pipes" #screensaver than anything else.
In a volume about the size of a 2L bottle of pop, there were 4 #elbows, 3 #unions, and five little pieces of pipe if I remember correctly. I soldered together a matching jumble of parts ... and then couldn't solder one side of it in, because it's at a local low point, and I couldn't get the last dribbles of #water to stop. Any water wicks the heat away and the #solder doesn't stick.
Ended up using a #flex line with #sharkbite connectors to replace the whole thing. What a shame, I was proud of my replacement.
Happily it was a straightforward swap of identical models. Didn’t have to replace the sink flange as a result. It was an awkward business of hefting it up to get it aligned and locked into the flange, but it took only a mild amount of swearing to finally get it right.🤬
No leaks. Orders have been given to unfurl the mission accomplished banner.
(The wiring under this sink could use some taming. Whoever did it was certainly not paid by the hour. 🙄 )
I noticed late last night, by way of discovering pooling water under the sink, that the garbage disposal had gone belly up.
And so today’s task is to replace it, which I don’t really relish doing, but:

And so, I’m off to the hardware store, having accepted the conditions are what they are and deciding how to act.
This outlet was my most recent home maintenance surprise. It was behind a shelf unit and apparently not one of the ones we inspected after moving in.
Luckily, it was more ugly than unsafe; everything was still firmly attached.
