  13. You would think that a bone-dry 99 F (37 C) day wouldn't be the best time to shoot sparks at creosote-soaked railroad ties. Apparently Norfolk-Southern (the company that owns the rails) thought different yesterday. The local volunteer fire department is dealing with the resulting fires.

    I hear from my son that the railroad is still smoldering, and is so hot that the interior of a car becomes noticeably hotter when driving over it.
