A Robber Fly, probably Ophionomima solocifemur, spotted at Thomson Nature Park, Singapore on 18 April 2025. It has a very long abdomen, and long hairy hind legs that make it an unusual looking fly.

I found a dead Beelzebub Bee-Eater (Mallophora leschenaulti) on the ground today! Poor bug has seen better days, but there's a remarkable new species for the life list.

First time seeing a robber fly inside the city. It was quite chill, I could take some close up pictures!

Is it a wasp?! No, it's a robber fly pretending to be a wasp.
This is the NZ endemic species, Saropogon antipodus (it has no common name). This is the first one I've seen.
A student on our recent ecology field trip found it on the floor of the Boyle Outdoor Education Centre, and thought it was a wasp (mimicry successful!).
There are 52 observations so far on #iNaturalist and this is the first from the Southern Alps.
