#OR Senator Jeff Merkley and #OR6 Congresswoman Andrea Salinas have introduced legislation in the #USSenate and #USHouse to give legal tools to victims to sue #ICE and #CBP when their agents violate people’s civil and Constitutional rights.
This is needed but we shouldn’t leave loopholes to be exploited. There should be an easy-to-access remedy for individuals to sue ANY federal law enforcement agency that violates their rights.

“Is there no virtue among us? If there be not, we are in a wretched situation. No theoretical checks, no form of government can render us secure. To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people is a chimerical idea.” #JamesMadison

#JohnJay (1745-1829) was the first Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court. He knew the difference between "pretended" vs. "just" causes of war.
The Federalist Papers, No. 5:
"... absolute monarchs will often make war when their nations are to get nothing by it, but for purposes and objects merely personal, such as, a thirst for military glory, revenge for personal affronts; ambition or private compacts to aggrandize or support their particular families, or partizans."

I just emailed my senators with the following message:
“I’m writing today to urge you NOT to vote to end the federal government shutdown without an agreement to extend the #ACA subsidies for at least a year. Despite how the shutdown affects me personally, I think it’s VITAL that Democrats stay strong and united against the cruelty and corruption of the Trump regime. Thank you!”
