Here in Germany there is a common known Saying about Work that goes as follows, literally translated into English:"A meritocracy, only those who work are allowed to participate."
I don't have a Clue either why this overworked Lifestyle is idolized that much or why People believe in it. 🤔
That's definitely toxic Behavior of Society.

Bit of UBI goodness. The only reason it's not implemented is because if people weren't stuck in underpaid jobs where corporations don't pay a living wage and welfare is used then they might ask questions.
And last time _that_ happened was the summer of 2020 which is why they've been desperate to "return to normal".

Are we just supposed to write it off as "Some people will #freeload, and the rest will just have to pay to #subsidize them without having any say about it"?
Or is there another answer? If so, what is it? If it's "shut up and pay for their sloth", how do you justify that #morally, or #practically? It's bound to create #conflict.

And yet, you still haven't addressed the question. As I said, proponents of UBI seem to universally ignore even the possibility that anyone under #UBI would not be a productive member of society.
When pressed, they usually say "oh, that won't happen".
I can only say that their view of society would seem to be entirely #uncontaminated by exposure to #actual #people.

I responded to another with more details, but maybe that didn't make it to your instance.
"No need to do anything" - so most people will contribute (work/taxes, or create art, or volunteer in the community, etc), and those #productive people will see their effort go to #subsidize others who do nothing productive at all. Demonstrably #unfair, and will definitely cause #conflict.
It's unworkable. We need an answer to this question to evaluate any UBI scheme.

And this was just for a study! The cost would have been minimal, but I guess politicians were afraid the study results might have indicated they've done a poor job of providing the social safety net they claim we have in Canada.

#UBI #proposals are usually silent on this, but it needs to be answered. What's your say regarding...
Some people will choose not to do anything #productive, and be happy living on the UBI doing nothing but watching TV etc. I do not know the exact percentage of the populace that will choose #sloth, but I know for certain that it will not be #zero.
What does the rest of society do about this? Is the answer "Just accept some will #freeload and let them"?
If not, what is it?
