2/2 Despite what FOX news hosts wail all the time, humans by nature are not lazy so they won't stop working. But UBI would fundamentally change society.

Although Guaranteed Income will help keep people out of poverty, it's a stopgap under firm government control and doesn't change the nature of work at all.

It will be interesting to see who starts talking GI instead of UBI.

UBI at the right level gives workers a choice where they want to work and what wages they will accept, and extends that to people being able to pick zero wage income and just volunteering or running small business that don't need to make a profit. In a strong sense, it creates the ultimate free market capitalism.

Even the Basic Income Canada Network has shifted to talking about Guaranteed Income. I hope that's at least Guaranteed *Livable* Income, but it's definitely a step backwards from Universal Basic Income. They've shifted because they think it will be easier to get politicians to accept GLI rather than UBI.

I think BICN is making a mistake.

Sinds 2019 volgen we de ontwikkelingen rondom de Gecombineerde Leefstijlinterventie (GLI), een behandeling voor mensen met overgewicht en obesitas.

Voor het eerst keken we of het gebruik van medicijnen met gewichtsverlagende werking invloed heeft op de resultaten. Deelnemers zonder deze medicijnen vielen gemiddeld iets minder af (4,4%) dan alle deelnemers (5%), dus inclusief de deelnemers die ook medicijnen gebruikten.

I didn't think passing Bill C223 to study a Guaranteed Livable Income would be an easy win, but neither did I think it would be so strongly defeated.

And this was just for a study! The cost would have been minimal, but I guess politicians were afraid the study results might have indicated they've done a poor job of providing the social safety net they claim we have in Canada.

Het percentage deelnemers (47%) dat minstens 5% gewicht verloor, is hoger aan het einde van het GLI-traject dan na de eerste fase. Ook de kwaliteit van leven gaat fors vooruit, blijkt uit het nieuwste RIVM-rapport over de Gecombineerde Leefstijlinterventie (#GLI).
