Becuse my elderly father likes to bring his latest existential dread to me, I've been reading about #DemographicCollapse / #PopulationDecline & even some #leftist writers seem to ignore that we spent the last century worried about a #malthusian disaster.
Obviously, it's a real problem, but are there good sources I can read/watch that aren't going to lead me to #doomerism?

More than 24.6 million people are facing a crisis level of hunger. It’s been more than a year and a half since violence between armed groups erupted in the country. @scottsantens in a sane world absolutely, except the deathcult plan is to kill as many people as possible to hope to survive in a post-climate world. #Malthusian theory is not new, but it is the majority thinking amongst the psychopaths 1% that have pillaged half of the world’s wealth. The only way for them to continue living with their privileges is to wipe out the rest of us. Unless we treat them for the threat that they are, we are doomed.

A little while ago, I posted a quote by the fascist ancap Hans-Hermann Hoppe:

“First and foremost, there is no such thing as ‘freedom of migration’ in a natural order [ie, a world of total private ownership]. People cannot move about as they please. Wherever a person moves, he moves on private property; and private ownership implies the owner’s right to include as well as to exclude others from his property.”

*There is no freedom in a world in which everything is privately owned,* except insofar as you own something or can beg permission from owners.

What I hadn’t realized was just how *old* this idea is, how long people have been able to recognize this basic and foundational aspect of our entire lives. I very recently came across this quote from Thomas Malthus—yes, that guy—in the 1803 first edition of his “Essay on the Principle of Population”:

“A man who is born into a world already possessed, if he cannot get subsistence from his parents on whom he has a just demand, and if the society do not want his labour, has no claim of right to the smallest portion of food, and, in fact, has no business to be where he is. At nature’s mighty feast there is no vacant cover for him. She tells him to be gone, and will quickly execute her own orders, if he do not work on the compassion of some of her guests.”

This passage was considered sufficiently honest, and thus too off-putting, and was edited out of later editions of Malthus’ essay. I wish it hadn’t been. It’s such a direct and clear-eyed admission of how private property works. When we are born “into a world already possessed,” we have no claim to even eat, unless we have permission from owners who want our labor. If not, then we die—not because we starve, but because we *are starved* by those owners who interfere with our sustenance.

In 2007, Boris Johnson wrote a piece for The Telegraph titled “Global over-population is the real issue,” in which he firmly declared that “the primary challenge facing our species is the reproduction of our species itself.”

Bigots may exist but terms like ecofash are invented to mar #environmentalists as fascist — and its stupid.

Their problem with capitalism was that it assumed energy would always be cheap and abundant - an assumption also required by #socialism (and which could be cleanly fulfilled by #nuclear power). Rather, their main solution was to keep energy scarce and ration it out - an anti-communist proposal if there ever was one - in addition to some #Malthusian nonsense about population. The enemy of your enemy is not your friend, and these scientists were looking backwards, not forwards.

@fluffy @tuxracer The “winning” narrative also stems from the #Malthusian zero-sum idea that there can only be one winner, which is completely counter to #IndieWeb.

So much bad #rascism back then.

Many negative ideas are put on #ThomasMalthus as #Malthusian but Malthus did provide positive scenarios around #education.

Educated #societies with access to #contraception and #familyPlanning services achieve lower #fertility - a great and #humane #scenario that #Malthus thought about.

#Elites don't want us knowing this. They want us to associate #populationGrowth with good and Malthus with evil, a from of #trickery for more hapless #workers.
