Hey #WeekendSewingClub ! I totally messed up the top I was trying to make last weekend (mainly due to me not realising that what I needed to do was the burrito method) so I tried again this weekend with a couple of leftover fabrics. Managed to make it work (yay!) - pretty pleased with the look of it until I put it on and saw the unfortunate pattern vs boob placement! Next time will be better #sewing @[email protected] @[email protected]

#weekendsewingclub One day I will be less vexed that I’ve ruined the top I was making by not understanding the instructions and doing something stupid and unfixable. On that day I will be more thankful that I have learned how to do it properly next time, through the power of YouTube videos. I fear that today is just the day where I gently seethe. #sewing

Hi #WeekendSewingClub
I’ve just finished #sewing this Sew Over It Libby shirt in a Lady McElroy fabric called Chicago Polaroids. It’s a bit of a fiddly make, due to the collar, but I’m pretty happy with it (assuming no-one looks at it too closely!) -

Here’s the second side of the hessian bag I’ve been embroidering- although it was tempting to add another plant in the gap top left I decided to leave it empty and embrace the asymmetry. Great patterns from #TheSteadyThread, I suspect I will be sewing some more of these at some point! #blackworkembroidery #Embroidery #fiberarts

Have loved this week’s #FiberArtCamp - massive thanks to @madgeface for organising
It has been great for seeing brilliant and inspiring work, connecting with new people and getting new ideas. I want to make the Lord of the Rings scarf, the Totoro cardi, the crocheted skull shawl and so much more, I’m in awe of the weavers, spinners, yarn-dyers and quilters, I want to upcycle/ recycle more and I need to learn how to knit brioche. Same time next year? #fiberarts

Today’s #FiberArtCamp prompt is #CartoonSaturday - what do you watch or listen to while you’re making?
At the minute, I’m doing #blackworkembroidery while we have music on shuffle in the background (so far this evening I’ve enjoyed Arch Garrison, Tame Impala and some of the Guilty Pleasures album!), but I often have TV/ streaming on (last week The Peripheral, again)
Sewing usually means BBC Radio 4, often punctuated by YouTube How To videos (especially when I have to thread the overlocker!)

Second #FiberArtClub #FiberFriday post (I promise to stop in a minute!). Yes, my favourite fabric is wool (again), but this time, knitting wool not woven fabric - specifically, Shetland wool. This is a baby jumper I made for a work colleague, using wool left over from the blanket I shared on Monday #knitting #FairIsleFriday #FiberArtCamp

For #FiberFriday during #FiberArtClub week I have chosen wool as my favourite fabric (not massively surprising as everyone else has too!). These are some of my home-sewn wool makes - as you can see, I’m also a sucker for a fancy lining! All of these are quite different fabrics - herringbone tweed on the bomber jacket, Italian cashmere deadstock with moths for the duffel coat, Loden wool on the super-thick 60’s coat and Merino wool for the tailored jacket. #sewing #dressmaking #FiberArtCamp

For #FiberArtClub #WIPWednesday I’m onto the second side of adding #blackworkembroidery plants to this hessian bag, using a great pattern from #TheSteadyThread. I’m still thinking about the next knitting project, wanting to try out some sewing projects from the Cath Kidston Sew book and wondering whether I will ever make a start on the winter coat I’ve got fabric for in the cupboard.

@rachelngibbs uh oh, feels like #tooltuesday is turning into “I really have to get one of those Tuesday”

Had a tidy of the cupboard the other weekend (too much fabric/ wool!) and found this boring hessian bag. Good excuse to try a bit of #blackworkembroidery using these excellent plant patterns from #TheSteadyThread #embroidery #fiberarts
