Hello there, fellow fediverselings ๐
After many years of making fibre art (mainly crochet amigurumi) for my family, my friends and myself, Iโm in the process of creating Srigurumiยน, where I sell my hand-made creations (custom-made according to your wishes or things I have already made) and teach crochet ๐
Hereโs Srigurumiโs website: ๐งถโจ https://srigurumi.art โจ๐งถ
At the moment it lacks a gallery and an English version (only the Hebrew one is currently available). I will add both in the near future, so feel free to follow this account for updates and photos of cute things made of yarn ๐ฐAlso, I recently discovered blackwork embroidery and Iโm totally enamoured ๐ชก
So maybe I will post about this as well when I create something worthyโฆ
(If you donโt know what blackwork embroidery is, search it on your favourite image search engine and be amazedโฆ ๐คฉ)โ Maja
~~~~~
ยน A compound of the Hebrew word ืกืจืืื /sriหga/ (which covers both knitting and crochet) and the Japanese word ็ทจใฟใใใฟ _amigurumi_ (crocheted stuffed toy).
Todayโs #FiberArtCamp prompt is #CartoonSaturday - what do you watch or listen to while youโre making?
At the minute, Iโm doing #blackworkembroidery while we have music on shuffle in the background (so far this evening Iโve enjoyed Arch Garrison, Tame Impala and some of the Guilty Pleasures album!), but I often have TV/ streaming on (last week The Peripheral, again)
Sewing usually means BBC Radio 4, often punctuated by YouTube How To videos (especially when I have to thread the overlocker!)
-
For #FiberArtClub #WIPWednesday Iโm onto the second side of adding #blackworkembroidery plants to this hessian bag, using a great pattern from #TheSteadyThread. Iโm still thinking about the next knitting project, wanting to try out some sewing projects from the Cath Kidston Sew book and wondering whether I will ever make a start on the winter coat Iโve got fabric for in the cupboard.
-
Last night, I did week 14 of the botanical #blackwork #embroidery #TheSteadyThreadSAL 2023.
I considered changing the accent thread, because I wasn't sure that it was coming out enough compared to the background, but I decided to keep it. Spending my days furiously doing a cross-stitch project on Aida, whenever I return to this single-stranded linen, it feels so delicate and sensitive. I need to remind myself to not pull too tight and distort the fabric.
-
There. I have caught up on all 13 weeks of my #blackwork stitch-along. I just love it. The geometry soothes my brain. #TheSteadyThreadSAL 2023
-
It's Friday, so Week 13 of #TheSteadyThreadSAL 2023 was released yesterday and I completed this week's hex while wrapping up the first major plot arc for "The Irregular at Magic High School" (after the opening Enrollment arc).
This week's #blackwork #embroidery hexagon stitched up pretty quickly. I am not a fan of the leaves, but the flowers are very pretty and give me a steampunk/gears vibe. This is the first time I'm using a pink accent colour and it looks so good!
-
I have had Bath #1, a good soak and a rudimentary hairwash without unbraiding my braid, and now Iโm tucked in bed with my #blackwork and Netflix (started mighty rewatch of #BreakingBad while in hospital. Middle of season 3 now)
Home home home home home ๐ฅฐ
The last release of the year-long #blackwork #embroidery #TheSteadyThreadSAL is week 12, so this should bring us up to date. Releases are on Thursdays, and my Thursday evenings are often relaxing stitching/anime/YouTube/AoE4 ones with @MauveAlert, so expect regular Thursday updates on the latest hexagon. ๐
Perhaps, even some "glamour shots". ๐
(To be fair, Mauve also has better lighting in their apartment, so photos taken there will be better than in mine.)
The next four weeks of my #blackwork #embroidery #TheSteadyThreadSAL!
Once I got into the rhythm of it, I quickly finished all of the hexagons over the course of a weekend and one weeknight evening. Since my accent colour selections have blues that equal the pinks and purples combined, I decided to alternate between blue and another accent colour on a weekly basis. Variety! ๐
I may use the greens I used in the wreath for the accents in the seven inner most hexes. ๐ค
-
I can't believe how quickly I managed to catch up with my 2023 year-long #blackwork #embroidery #TheSteadyThreadSAL!
When I originally conceived of the colours, I thought I would outline them in this light brown gradient, but the vegetative components of each weekly release would be in the greens I choose for the outer wreath.
On a whim, I decided to try using the light brown gradient floss for the vegetative components and absolutely fell in love.
The first four weeks!
A quick update on the year-long beast that is #TheSteadyThreadSAL 2023!
I've been working on this #blackwork #embroidery project, off and on, since my last update on February 7th. On March 7th, a month later, I finally finished the shell! I took photos to celebrate this accomplishment, but because I don't sew in the ends of the hexagons, it looks like quite a mess. ๐
A photo of the back does a better job in conveying what it looks like. I also selected accent colours!
Project: The Steady Thread's #100DaysOfTiny.
The pattern: It's free on Clare's website! (It's so pretty! ๐)
https://thesteadythread.com/collections/chart/products/100-days-of-tinyFloss: I will use Threadworx's Bradley's Balloons only.
https://www.threadworx.com/productDetails.php?prd_id=747Fabric:
Not entirely sure, so I am taking this opportunity to get a bunch of different fabrics to both add to my swatch collection and to select one for the project. My only criteria is that it is black. ๐Start: When fabric arrives.
I have been very good over the past month working on this project once a week. It usually takes me an hour to do each release and, last night, I finished #SnarkySAL's #blackwork #embroidery Gothic Valentine project while watching episode 2 of Poker Face. Just in time!
I am thinking of getting an ebony-stained hoop to frame and hang it. It was a nice, low-commitment, fun project. I will probably line it with black cloth and finish it with some black felt. ๐๐ฆ๐โจโณ
I've had a really busy January and February but I'm managing to work on my projects here and there.
Update on my #blackwork #embroidery #TheSteadyThreadSAL:
I am just past the halfway mark in terms of making the template and it is going quickly. I plan on selecting thread for the accent flowers tonight so I can start with weekly releases.
I don't sew in the ends of the hexagon outlines until I'm done with the insides, so... lots of loose threads alert!
-
I decided to swatch the floss I have selected for the template, to have a feel for which combinations give me the most pleasure for my #TheSteadyThreadSAL 2023 #blackwork #embroidery project.
I am missing 905 and 470 and I plan on obtaining them before making a final decision.
(This grey cloth is hard to photograph. I tried tweaking the photo settings to be as accurate as possible.)
Thoughts?
-
Purchased floss!
Now, considering combinations...I think I like the brighter combination, but the muted combination is also very pretty against the grey.
-
Progress on my #blackwork #embroidery #TheSteadyThreadSAL 2023 project!
My fabric is here! ๐๐
I ordered a bunch of "grey" fabric, but only one matched what I envisioned. It is closest in colour to DMC 3799, but not exactly. Maybe halfway to 535?
It's 36ct Edinburgh linen in Magical Grey. ๐
Today, I plan on picking up several shades of green floss to match and probably a few tan/beige for the hexagons.
Template stitching shall begin this weekend! *determined*
I rewatched "Glass Onion" last night while putting down the first stitches for two of my planned #blackwork #embroidery projects.
One is the #SnarkySAL Gothic Valentine SAL, which releases once a week on Tuesday for the next six weeks. The first part was released today, so I dove into it! I am trying to stitch with recommended thread lengths, which are super short for me. I'm trying to break the habit of using really long threads, so my stitches look better. ๐
Update on progress for my #TemperatureSAL #blackwork #embroidery 2023!
I managed to finish the template for January, February, and March and stitched both January 1st and January 2nd readings on the appropriate days.
I plan on collecting data for multiple days and having a longer sit-down session, probably once a week, to do several days at a time.
I am using the colour to indicate temperature and the height to indicate weather. (1/2)
And just as some journeys end, others begin.
I have checked the tracking and the fabric for my #blaalckwork #embroidery botanical #TheSteadyThreadSAL 2023 is arriving today. That also features hexagons!
Also arriving is fabric for the current #UrbanStitches' Until Death Do Us Part SAL, which I am woefully behind on, as I haven't started on it. ๐ Fingers crossed that I like what I ordered and can begin: it is hand-dyed so I may not like it.
Over the weekend and yesterday, I managed to complete three of my #blackwork #embroidery projects!
I completed the year-long #SnarkySAL of rainbow hexagons. I learned a lot over the past year and it was so enjoyable! In 2023, there is a Gothic Valentine SAL I have the materials to start on.
I also completed the Advent Snowflake! Quick and fun.
Lastly, I completed my triptych doiley while watching "Glass Onion". Look forward for pretty photography of all three. ๐
Hey #blackwork #embroidery folks! Feedback request!
Tomorrow, I finish my #SnarkySAL project, when the last hex will be released. I decided to frame it in a hoop; after measuring, I opted for a 16" hoop. My project in the 16" hoop feels kind of crowded to me, so I tried the 18" hoop and I think it looks better. It *barely* fits, so I will need to add fabric in order to finish it correctly in an 18" hoop. Here is my almost finished piece in 16" & 18". Which looks better?
I stitched up three more hexagons in my #SnarkySAL, including the penultimate hexagon. One more to go, to be released this coming Saturday. What a delightful journey this #blackwork #embroidery stitchalong has been! I plan on framing it in a single large hoop when it is complete.
The rainbow colourway is so pretty. I am thinking of using it for 2023's botanical SAL, where the colour is going to be the floral element highlight. ๐ค
