Finally done!

I think this is the most complex dress I’ve ever made, in that it consists of a figure hugging top with slim sleeves, a skirt made out of six panels and most notably two very deep pockets (I managed to put a 2l cola bottle into one!).

I’ve made skirts with pockets before, but this is the first dress and I’ll say that I didn’t exactly enjoy the experience of sewing them in, and that there are things I could have done better, but for the time being they are still going to be quite nice.

Length-wise it goes to my calves, with is a pretty good length for a long skirt, since it should reduce the danger of stepping on it when walking up stairs, while still being long enough to keep my legs warm, especially when combined with leg-warmers.

Lastly it matches the design with one of my shorter dresses, so I can even do the thing where I wear the short one during the day and then switch to this one in the night without changing looks. 😊

Finally, my best #Yarnuary tip. If you're lucky enough to be bought an adjustable tailor's dummy for Christmas, make sure you take your measurements like I did, early on Boxing Day. You may be horrified at the time but now I feel smug knocking off a few centimetres without suffering too much dieting hell.

For #FiberFriday during #FiberArtClub week I have chosen wool as my favourite fabric (not massively surprising as everyone else has too!). These are some of my home-sewn wool makes - as you can see, I’m also a sucker for a fancy lining! All of these are quite different fabrics - herringbone tweed on the bomber jacket, Italian cashmere deadstock with moths for the duffel coat, Loden wool on the super-thick 60’s coat and Merino wool for the tailored jacket. #sewing #dressmaking #FiberArtCamp

Here's a close up of the fabric so you can see that the polkadots aren't just colourful spots, but are in fact little sweets!

Also some shots of the dress laid flat to show construction, including the in-seam pockets which are not part of the pattern, but easy to add in.

Another #revamp #upcycle project, to a full length high waisted, brown needlecord pinafore #dress from a charity shop. The bust was to tight and needed letting out about 3 inches. Adding the striped front panel allowed me to cover the 10in cut I made straight down the centre of the yoke to increase the width. I had to shape the front panel with darts to keep the shape of the high waist. I added the #embroidery not only for decoration but to help flatten and pull in the #Fabric #Dressmaking #Sew
