Getting ready to record a bit tomorrow.
Things I need to fix:
1. busy pattern shirt, of course.
2. there's a sweatshirt in the background
3. Not sure if it's too cheesy to have my new book in the background. My daughter says I need to leave it in. -

“Microsoft offers to buy out a quarter of its workforce”
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026/10/microsoft-offers-voluntary-buyouts-to-60000-employees/Strange move. This must be bad for morale. Do they really think that many positions are unnecessary? Or do they hope to hire new/inexperienced people for less money?

Somewhat interestingly, the verification for that kind of copying has always been in place, as the Congruentry feature caters for proving that one location is a perfect subset of another.
However I've so far used other standard tools for copying and felt that copy operations have a lot of edge cases to code for - and I'm lazy about doing that.
-
I've been reminded that among the unrealised ideas for my Foldatry tool is to give it a feature of a "backup" copy process that's smart enough to not bother copying various useless parts of the folder/file structures.
The cache folders of web browsers is an obvious example but there are probably others that are just not needed in an archive. Perhaps also image thumbnails?
Particular targets would be those with large numbers of tiny files as these often bog down copy and proof processes.

🐧 SIGINT // Linux Watch — 2026-10-27
A working root exploit for a Linux kernel flaw is public before it has a CVE or a merged upstream fix, and Debian 12/13 and Ubuntu 24.04/26.04 are among the affected distros. Check your mitigations and watch for patches, since waiting politely is not a strategy.

I make playlists because I still fantasize about starting a band based on very specific musical influences. I think I was very good at making mix tapes for potential band members to listen to. I think.

Some students are still taking the opportunity to learn. I help students who are stuck, if they ask me. This used to be how learning worked. I’m glad I’m basically retired.

🐧 SIGINT // Ubuntu Watch — 2026-10-27
Two PHP CVEs, and this is the one with actual commands. It covers Ubuntu, Debian, Docker and panels, plus the lagging-mirror trap: check apt-cache policy php8.3-fpm before assuming you're patched. Docker images need a rebuild, not just apt upgrade.
