  6. @DrHyde Oh, I think I know that feeling; my sympathies.

    I am much happier with using for my personal needs on a home server.

    I usually describe it as a DIY CI: it allows one to build the CI solution they need, instead of fitting their needs to their CI solution.

    Sure, it is a different kind of tinkering, but I thought it might be of interest for you too.

  7. @DrHyde @Perl It’s understandable when you consider @rjbs invented it to maintain his 200+ #CPAN dists. And it’s possible to enable folks to successfully contribute to #dzil projects without making them use it. Unfortunately, that’s not configured by default.

  8. @quixoticgeek @DrHyde I was wondering for years why they do not use #f2fs by default. I also try to use readonly root-fs if possible.

  9. @blacklight @DrHyde @tyil The #JargonFile started being passed around and accumulating entries through the 1970s at #Stanford, #MIT, #CarnegieMellon, Bolt Beranek and Newman, and other pre-Internet computing centers. Some terms date back to the late 1950s MIT Tech Model Railroad Club, a very early progenitor of #hacker culture.

  14. CW: letter to promote the fedi / shout-out for transit/ cycling/ walking/ neighbourhood accounts

    @unchartedworlds @futurebird
    Cool. I'll hold off on that, then.

    The travel / transit account I follow is really only @notjustbikes

    For topic-specific things I like following hashtags since I then get to see people that I would not normally pick up.

    I can recommend the hashtags: #CrossBorderRail
    #BikeTooter
    #WalkableCities
    #LowCar - actually, rather use #CarFree

  19. Holy crap! It's got too! I shall resurrect my project from 1999 to get to support !

    (the bug is that bzip2 insists (insisted?) that `short` be 16 bits)

  20. What's this? The includes ? Ooh shiny! I didn't think there were any working emulators. Now downloading so I can pick it apart and see how it does it, and then replicate without the extra gigabytes of baggage. And then I shall install my favourite EVAR, , which I affectionately call a complier, not a compiler, because it really led the field in whining about bad non-standard C.

  21. So that I can perpetrate a Monstrous Evil I need to use . I found @b0rk's article (jvns.ca/blog/2014/11/27/ld-pre) and via that Ian Taylor's 20 part guide to (web.archive.org/web/2026051514). There's a comment from a reader there that provides a way of turning the guide into an , but that includes the blog readers' comments.
