Oh, that was a lovely book! The magical realism was fascinating to me. I'll have to see if the movie is somewhere that I can easily access it.

The heat goes on. Today the temperature will rise to 32°C, so this morning I opted for an easy short run at 24°C.
When it's hot I stick to shaded park alleys and always bring water with electrolytes, even if I only run for 30'.
@mlawton The #boatoftheday is called Julia Atlanta 😉

Happy with this one. Calculated that white wouldn’t recognize the danger and play Kxd5, because it looks like the bishop is defended. The pawn on d5 is load-bearing and with the king in support, it’d be difficult to stop. Very enticing.
If so, I would follow up with Rxb4, sacrificing the rook, but ensuring promotion cannot be stopped. And that’s exactly what happened.
The only surviving move is Ba5 and then it’s anyone’s game, although advantage to black.

And now we transition more. Of the major senior players, gone are Salah, Robbo.
Probably gone are Chiesa, Endo, and Gomez.
Maybe gone: Konate and possibly Jones? Mac Allister?
Upon consideration, I don’t know that this season represents the full transition. I think we’re still inside the chrysalis.

I would have kept Mo on until stoppage time. He was fairly effective today.
Frimpong, for me, just doesn’t have anything better to offer. I can see his promise, but he’s sloppy in the end & plays slower than he should. With his pace, he should be driving to the touch line every time, even if he stops and pulls out a back pass. Wear out that LB and force the bend in the shape of the back line. Rio does this well, commanding the double team plus the gravity of pulling the CB further out.

FFS. Deflection is into the worst possible place. A Brentford player is in an offside position, also not affecting the goal. But unlike LFC versus City, it doesn’t matter.

It’s a great outside the boot pass from Mo.
Neither Jones nor Salah seemed to celebrate in the moment. The doubt of the VAR decision? Odd.

They don’t know how many people were enslaved. The original plantation owner, Colonel William Preston, had records which indicated approximately 10, but when he moved his family to a new plantation, “Smithfield” (near Blacksburg), estimates put the enslaved population to be nearly 40.
The trailhead, I thought, put in a respectable effort to acknowledge the history in full. 3/3

That cabin is a historical building, having once housed enslaved people. It was built in 1864. There is an active historical society that has fought extremely hard to preserve it, both as a place of archeological research, but also as an acknowledgement of the stain of slavery.
What I find galling is that this isn’t the original location. The county wanted the land for industrial development. The historical society rallied against it, but ultimately had to retreat and fund relocation! 2/n

It started out as an exploratory bike ride in neighboring Botetourt County (locals pronounce it “bot-uh-tot”). The ride itself was a disaster of constantly getting lost in trying to connect from the Cherry Blossom Trail onto the Greenfield Trail. You have to take a few horse trails. They’re marked, but only so far as to tell you that you’re on a horse trail. Intersection? “Horse Trail” 😐
Finding a bee sanctuary right off the trailhead was cool. The raggedy looking cabin in the background? 1/n

Finished up our flower planting from last weekend to take my mind off of things.
Didn’t really work, so I instead spent my Friday evening being productive and beginning inquiries to both DMM (daily money management - i.e. bill pay) and GCM (geriatric care management) providers.
Both parents are falling apart and my sister an I are trying to be proactive. We’re not in any crisis yet, but it’s safe to say the storm clouds are gathering.
