“Here we reframe the inference of coalescence times as a problem of translation between two biological languages: the sparse, observable patterns of mutation along the genome and the unobservable ancestral recombination graph that gave rise to them.” #PopGen #PopulationGenetics

Arcee AI has released Trinity Large Thinking, a 400B parameter sparse MoE reasoning model under Apache 2.0 license. The model activates only 13B parameters per token while maintaining frontier-class performance on agentic tasks. Designed for long-horizon autonomous agents and multi-turn tool use. https://www.marktechpost.com/2026/04/02/arcee-ai-releases-trinity-large-thinking-an-apache-2-0-open-reasoning-model-for-long-horizon-agents-and-tool-use/ #AIagent #AI #GenAI #AgenticAI #Arcee

Rhode Island repeaters are configured to use a coding rate value of 8 (CR8) for extra error correction since they are a very sparse network at the moment. The connection then traverses up into Boston through more reliable links.
It's not 100% reliable, but it is working in practice. Now that #MeshCore has a foothold in the area, it's going to be easy to demonstrate and expand.
Next goal, connect the node I installed on #BlockIsland to Boston!

Alibaba's new Qwen 3.5 397B-A17 outperforms even larger rivals by using multi-token prediction and a sparse mixture-of-experts architecture. It cuts inference cost while keeping top-tier performance, hinting at a new era for multimodal AI. Curious how 397 billion parameters can be cheaper? #TIL: XenCenter makes no objection when one tells it to delete an apparently unused “backend" vdisk which has a (sparse) descendant busy with a running VM. Also, doing that to a Windows VM does not cause it to fail immediately.
Unclear how this mistake has not been previously made in this environment. -
Winglets design optimised using #openvsp , final design with @FreeCAD then the prototypes were (very sparse!) 3D printed and skinned with carbon (production versions will be full carbon mouldings). Now flight tested (will tweak the optimiser a little to avoid the small area of speartion you can see in the tuft testing). More details about the optimisation in this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/winglet-135459661

Our paper reformulates #Gaussian processes as a form of procedural noise -- specifically, sparse convolution noise, simulated by placing kernels at random locations. This allows us to leverage the decades of work in graphics on efficient procedural noise synthesis and to express GPISes in a language familiar to practitioners in our field. [3/7]

At Berlin Buzzwords 2025, Evgeniya Sukhodolskaya presented miniCOIL—a novel approach to creating a sparse neural retrieval model. This model aims to combine the advantages of dense and lexical retrieval methods while avoiding their drawbacks. Evgeniya discussed how to design and train a lightweight model that performs well on out-of-domain data and demonstrated its capabilities.

Last night we watched the Danish movie Godland, set almost entirely in Iceland and with (sparse) dialogue in Danish and Icelandic. Over two hours of it.
It was beautiful. Dire. Scenic. Bleak. Amazing. Frustrating. Graphic (animal slaughter). Serene. Extremely weird in places.
Would I recommend it? Hard to say, I reckon many wouldn't have made it as far as the church building site before bailing.
Most of the movie has no dialogue, it documents the long drawn-out journey with truly astounding vistas. A good chunk of the dialogue is "I don't understand you" (said in Danish) as the priest doesn't speak Icelandic. There is an interpreter for some part of the journey, but, well, he departs at some point.
The movie is an artwork, made to look like it was filmed in Super 8 (i.e. 4x3 aspect). It needs to be treated as art rather than a story, for much of it at least. On that basis, it is truly worth the time spent watching it.

The #Baobab #Tree is often called the "upside-down tree" due to its distinctive appearance, with sparse branches that resemble roots reaching towards the sky when it's leafless during the dry season.
These remarkable trees, native to Africa, Madagascar, and Australia, are renowned for their ability to store vast amounts of water in their massive trunks, allowing them to survive in arid environments.
