I have never regretted saying I do not know in front of my team. The fear is that it costs authority. What it does is tell everyone that not knowing is survivable here. The cost of looking certain is how late the bad news arrives.

Every dead vendor leaves a body worth examining and almost nobody does it. Roadmap changed after acquisition. Pricing shifted once switching cost was high. We do postmortems on outages, which are loud. Not on vendors, which are quiet and cost more.
