  5. I bought a 2TB SSD upgrade for the M4 Mac Mini from expandmac.com. Installation was super easy but I got hung up on the DFU restore process. If you just turn on the M4 Mac Mini while its middle rear thunderbolt port is connected via a USB-C cable to another Mac, it will report that it's in DFU mode but the actual restore will fail with "An unknown error … (21)". To enter DFU mode properly, unplug the M4 Mac Mini's power cable, hold down the power button, then plug the power cable back in while continuing to hold the power button until the M4 Mac Mini shows up on the working Mac .
