it feels good that i got 3 PRs approved and merged into the #atari800 emulator project. two were fixes for ctrl-[letter] key handling and CAPS key handling in SDL2. the other PR allowed using -run <file> at the same time as -netsio, which enables access to #fujinetpc

because i wasn't getting any work done on atari-spotify-app, I took another route and added a spotify command to YAIL. now I can listen to spotify and display album covers on the #atari8bit. #fujinet and #spotify premium needed.

Working on some small patches to the #atari800 emulator. In particular, fixing some small nits in SDL2 stuff that don't quite work the same way as they did with SDL1.2. Some of these are minor, but wading through the code to figure out what is going on and what might have caused the problems is part of what makes this fun.

haha... i got my son, with me in the Philippines, to talk with someone in Poland over IRC using my #Atari800XL with #Fujinet-PC running #FujiNetChat. he enjoyed the experience.

One can use an #Atari8bit computer like an #Atari800XL, or #atari800 emulator with #FujiNet-PC to connect to a CP/M #cpm emulator.

There's a 2.9kb binary file that runs on #Atari8bits with #FujiNet that quickly connects you to the Southern AMIS Projects 2026 - #Atari Gateway.
Here's a short demo.
btw, the "app" is even smaller than the animated GIF here. :D

I discovered that B. Watson (Urchlay) ported #Taipan to the #Atari8bit recently (2026). Obligatory screenshot below. It's still work-in-progress, but it's already pretty good.
I had wanted to port Taipan too, and I've posted elsewhere about my own feeble attempts. At least now, I can just enjoy playing the game on my Atari 800XL. :)
If you want to check it out, it's available at https://slackware.uk/~urchlay/repos/taipan/about/

Here's a sample screenshot of FujiNet-Chat running on #atari800 with #Fujinet-PC on #Linux. FujiNet-Chat is an #IRC client for #Atari8bit computers.

today, i worked on implementing netsio proceed signal handling in the #atari800 emulator. after hours of dev, I got it working and submitted a PR to the github:atari800/atari800 project.
-
I got FujinetChat to work on my Atari 800XL! But only after fixing some code in fujinet-firmware to get the PROCEED signal properly handled for SIO2PC.
The fix was submitted as my first PR to the fujinet-firmware project on github. It was accepted. :)
FujinetChat is an IRC client for Atari 8-bit computers written by Urchlay.

Just pushed my new project repository to gh. https://github.com/ericpareja/wwiv5autosend/
This is my first attempt at reimplementing Cris McRae's AutoSend for WWIV. So far, I've gotten two use cases working: posting subscription lists for each sub hosted here, and posting a list of subs hosted here in a message.
-
Another sample screen from the new WWIV5 AutoSend. Here is a subscription list for one of the Subs hosted on my BBS.

Someone asked me why I still bother writing tools for BBS software that hardly anyone uses anymore. I just smiled and told them that I still use it, so the tool is mainly for me. But the truth is that there are more than a few others who still use old software like this because they like continuing to use old software. There are countless others who use old computers because they find old computers fun.
-
I've essentially finished the /subslist option for my WWIV AutoSend rewrite. I'm currently tackling the Yellow Pages posting of subs hosted here. Not gonna lie, the original WWIV AutoSend by Cris McRae was a comprehensive tool with so many details covering different aspects of automated Sub management, I am gonna try my best to make my ground-up re-implementation as close to it as I can make it.
-
I wrote a basic subscription list generation utility for WWIVnet BBSes in C++, with AutoSend as inspiration. Here's a sample screenshot.
There are a lot of interesting tools you can make for your BBS if you look hard enough. They can be old tools that no longer work with the new BBS, or new tools.
