This pattern never changes. Someone reports that Paypal is implementing a new privacy abuse measure & dozens of users dance to maintain their Paypal account, instead of walking. This depressing pattern is the same reason the web has become so enshitified and immersed in #walledGardens.
Consumers not smart enough to walk only /think/ going through hoops to opt-out of one small facet of the overall abuse is the smart move, as they continue to empower Paypal with their continued business.
It’s likely because of these loyal Paypal patrons enriching Paypal that I now face having to walk out of physical cafes because I discover their only method of payment is #Zettle, which enables #Paypal to MitM my offline payment in a brick and mortar shop.
At this point, the only thing preventing Paypal customers from being the dicks is their naivety (as being a dick is intentional).

I very rarely pay w/plastic (#warOnCash), but made some exceptions & noticed that “Zettle by Paypal” was printed on the receipt. I got burnt in the sense that I #boycottPaypal in part b/c they are reckless w/data (they share data w/over 600+ corps). If I knew in advance that #Paypal was in the loop, I would not have paid w/plastic. #Zettle.com is tor-hostile as well.

#today I worked with the group to get ready for the first #RepairCafé session at the start of February, including setting up the #Zettle for a couple of my colleagues, then had a nice chat and early lunch!
