'What is the meaning of life? That was all- a simple question; one that tended to close in on one with years, the great revelation had never come. The great revelation perhaps never did come. Instead, there were little daily miracles, illuminations, matches struck unexpectedly in the dark; here was one.'

Virginia Woolfe, To The Lighthouse

Move II, 2023

Impression from a performance of Eva Maria Houben (Piano) & Kagaya Sanae (Koto, Chant, Butoh); a compositional collaboration between the two

"We can find Butoh, in the same way we can touch our hidden reality, something can be born, and can appear, living and dying in the moment."

Tatsumi Hijikata in a letter to Natsu Nakajima, 1984

You think you are
courageous
but at best
you have confused
your irrational fears
with reality & cultivated them.

Now you let yourself be
called a contrarian
& believe that
compassion is
out of place
like empathy
for those who are
really in need
the #brave rebels
against oppression
& ignorance

Who is the one
that might wish to
obliterate the sun

as he cannot
stand to stare into
the bright

while someone who
already is shadowed
by an observer

may think
he would
disappear

in the absence
of
the light?

These days
I could do with a few
slogans of perseverance,
if they didn't always come
in the imperative
& turn into a single
yelp and bark
in my brain
that maltreats me:
#Persevere!
Stay strong!
Don't
grow
weak!
Go!
Go!
Go!

In einem Nu, 2022

Just submerging in time
Lost in the moment
Disappeared in a blink
Gone in a flash
Those ones so
Self-assured

Jiffy faded
All in
All
