@footsteps A fellow #coffeeneuring fan here. The story reminds me of the time I rented the main floor and basement of a house. Landlord was introducing me to the woman who lived upstairs who looked at me and said "nonfat hazelnut latte." She worked at the coffee shop that served as my one Indulgence at that point in my economic life.

In 1973, Mark Granovetter wrote a paper titled, "The Strength of Weak Ties." Its thesis is that weak ties — acquaintanceships that are not reinforced by many mutual friendships — are especially pivotal in the flow of information. Strong ties are family and very close friends.
I always order a red-eye coffee (drip coffee with a shot of espresso added). New baristas invariably look at their touch screen, say "excuse me one minute", and go ask some other employee for help. At which point, the other employee says "that's Todd." #WeakTies

Here's my story about this year's #Coffeeneuring Challenge: seven bike rides to seven different coffee shops in seven weeks.
I had no pre-planned theme other than to try using the #Pointz navigation app to find less stressful routes to my destinations. Upon reflection, a recurring thought was about the "weak ties" theory. #WeakTies

A new(ish) version of our paper Firms and the #Intergenerational Transmission of Labor Market Advantage is up on #Socarxiv: https://osf.io/preprints/socarxiv/mv3e9
We've added lots of stuff but what we worked particularly hard on is how #WeakTies are passed on from parent to child.
