What is wrong with #GlobalHealth?
“A critical studies definition of global health would consider global health as the practice of public health in high-income countries for low-income countries.” @@girijasankar06
This came up at #SkollWF & prompted me to look further. It feels like seeking new thinking, crossing disciplinary boundaries, only to find the same problems repeated. Thoughts?

Smart motorways cut https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-65288852
This seems an inconsistent application of criteria compared to other road types & transport modes. What about the -ve impacts resulting?
The PM says ‘all drivers deserve to have confidence in the roads they use to get around the country’. Will the same benefit be granted to all road users?
Maybe the smart thing to do would be put the £1bn saved back into the active travel funding slashed a few weeks ago? @@livingstreets #ViaMastodon

Checking original sources 🧐. I love this part of #PhDlife, there have been several times that I have interpreted something differently from how someone else citing the same ref. This 1978 paper is an early example of what we now are so used to: the socio-ecologic paradigm in #PublicHealth, here in relation to death from heart attack - that the biologic can’t explain everything, the role of ‘social causation’ & what we now call ‘wider determinants’. #ViaMastodon

Sitting here in #CLAPS2022 today and getting so much validation for the issues we're seeing in libraries today. I really needed this and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Our Rosie has finished the rest of her body, so it's now time to settle in and to focus on her peets.

Kudos to Alison Green from Ask a Manager for just stating it plainly.
And this comment from someone in the article: "And companies benefited from their employees desire to go out of their way to do good work. But they didn’t reward those employees in any real, worthwhile way." <------------- YES!

When I was an admission counselor, I was hit on by this one guy every time we were at the same college fair. It was literally my job to be pleasant and polite, but I was firmly clear that I was Not Into Him. It doesn't matter if they're married or not, don't hit on colleagues. At all. Ever.
Be professional and quit thinking about your penis for just a minute.

"That means reevaluating how diverse groups of people are treated, to find a common way for people to interact."
But that doesn't include folks with disabilities who were unable to attend in person. The group did not respond to requests for inclusivity around accessibility prior to the conference, according to one of my colleagues who reached out and was ignored.

Hey, all in #Library land! I'm one of the chairs of the North Dakota Library Association's Professional Development Committee, and I maintain our job postings. We accept job posting requests from libraries in ND, MN, MT, SD and for remote library positions.
Are you hiring a #librarian or #LibraryWorker in one of those states or for a fully remote position? Do you need to find someone to fill those #LISJobs in your library?
