I believe that Biden was one of the better presidents of the last few decades, that any self styled "progressive" voter who either abstained or voted for a third party candidate deserves blame, that the US media in general and the NYT in particular should focus more on Trump's unfitness for office, and that the Trump regime is a right wing authoritarian horror.

I also believe that effective opposition to Trump and his supporters requires -- amongst many other things -- frank discussion of the shortcomings of the Biden candidacy last year, and that to lambast Michelle Goldberg as "complicit in fascism" does not advance this discussion and is grossly unfair to a thoughtful progressive journalist.

  2. From the Edges of a Broken World – Guernica

At the foot of a page now largely blank because Guernica editorial staff do not want you to read an Israeli writer's essay, the magazine asks for money if "you value Guernica’s role in this era of obfuscation".

Have these people no sense of the ridiculous?

  3. CW: American News Landscape; Widespread Worker Layoffs

I'm sure this will make the media landscape of the USA even more helpful:

    > CNN: “a couple hundred” staffers lost their jobs
    > Gannett: “roughly 200” employees were laid off, just months after hundreds of others were laid off.
    > The Washington Post: just announced the end of its Sunday magazine, laying off the 10 staffers who ran it.
    > Protocol: shut down last month, laying off its entire staff.
    > Vice: has been laying off employees in small-ish chunks spread out over many months, which has helped spare them bad headlines.
    > ABC News: seems like they’ll be making some layoffs early in 2023.
    > NBC News/MSNBC: seems like they’ll be making layoffs early next year, as well.
