Did some gasoline therapy after dinner. Drove down through the center of town and back up. Still surprises me how much this town has changed.
I could bemoan the loss of the town that I loved. But that misses the mark. It’s nostalgia. The pain of knowledge.
What I miss is all the opportunities for love and friendship that I squandered along the way. It’s why I moved here. But I didn’t ask for what I wanted. I didn’t join the people I needed.

CW: Covid, kink, heartbreak, eugenics
One of the things I was afraid of when I started exploring #kink was that I was so traumatized from the #pandemic that I would be incapable of falling in love or feeling anything again for another person. I felt so numb from the isolation of #covid as well a seeing people's selfishness and callous disregard for people with disabilities that I thought that part of me had withered away.
Turns out it didn't! I do still have access to the part of me that can care for and delight in another person. But I also forgot how much it fucking hurts when that other person doesn't care for or delight in me the same way.
The next time I feel this way about someone, I hope it's the last time. There's something about me since #covid19 that feels more fragile, and I can't keep doing this.
In the meantime, there's #MARINA's song "Starring Role" playing on repeat, long walks in nature, and therapy.

In my day we called it "unrequited love". Or "loving from afar." We have centuries of literature and poetry devoted to the topic. But these days where so many feel like they're entitled to have complete and utter control over their lives -- a world where everyone gets a trophy for just showing up -- the only way we can frame our inability to get what we want is to assume we are victims. And there's a victimizer. *She* has done something to you. She has *friend zoned* you. She has reduced you to a lesser state. Can we go back to just calling it unrequited love?

At one point he had 4 females around all of whom were very much not onboard with his nonsense. After opining in this piece that I want someone to tell me that my feelings for these past crushes were real and that they mattered, a couple paragraphs later, I wrote:
"If #FallOutBoy gets to write a song--well, their entire oeuvre--about wanting girls who don't want them, I should fucking get to write about two girls I had crushes on and have that seen as significant and important by other people and worth caring about!"
So I'll end this thread on that note. Straight guys write about #UnrequitedLove and it's art. #Queer people write about it and it's dismissed or seen as us somehow dragging down the #LGBTQ rights movement, rather than a reflection of society's continued #queerphobia. And if you're #bisexual, it's taken as an excuse for why you're "not really queer."

In this writing I'm revisiting, after chronicling two very close friendships, one with a woman from college and another I met through leftist activism, I come to the conclusion that I was infatuated with these women. But our society doesn't make space for narratives about "what might have been," and in an on-going #pandemic that makes #dating and #sex impossible, "what might have been" is still all that I have. It's maybe all I ever will have. I feel like I'll never get the chance to explore my #bisexuality in any meaningful way. And I'm still processing that #DisenfranchisedGrief. One point in the piece that stands out is:
"I want someone to tell me that it was real and that it mattered."
I still want someone to tell me that my feelings were real and that they mattered, even if they're all I have.

They do see it.It’s not either of your faults that your romantic interests aren’t in alignment.
People are allowed to love whoever they want.So, be all that you are. Be in love with yourself and anyone else you want. Your capacity for love is not limited by the love others have for you, only by the size of your own heart.

With most things, you don’t have to wait. If you want it, there are ways and means of getting it. It might not be easy and you might need to wait for opportunities but you can often create those.
With love, it’s not so simple. You might be able to create opportunities to meet people but you can’t create feelings that aren’t there. So, waiting for the right person to come along can be hard. It’s agonising, in fact.
Now, I’m waiting for my brain to catch up to my heart so I can see if this person I’ve found is my person. I hope he is but I have no idea if he even sees me that way. Plus, my brain is riddled with anxiety and 30 years of rejection, so I have to wait for it to find the courage to look beyond that and take a risk.
Someone help me get my brain to work.

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. And I missed big time tonight because I didn’t take the shot. I thought about it. And I convinced myself that I couldn’t do it. Every doubt I’ve ever had about myself bubbled to the surface and I couldn’t think of a single reason he’d want to be with me.
Self talk will be your best friend and your worst enemy. Learning which voice to listen to is not easy. Experience and knowledge will help. But sometimes that negative voice will whisper in your brain, and you’ll believe it enough to stop whatever it is you’re doing. Then you hate yourself for listening to that voice and it just reinforces the negativity.
Breaking a cycle like that takes time and energy because you have to internalise all the compliments that people give you when my first reaction is to say, “oh, it was nothing” or “no, I’m not.”

It’s 1:30am and I probably should be going to sleep but, instead, I am journaling about how I get to see the guy I have a crush on over the weekend (in a purely platonic way) and how there’s basically Buckley’s chance that I am going to be able to suck up the courage to tell him how I feel because I’m pretty sure there a snowballs chance in hell of him feeling the same way about me. All I can think of is reasons why it wouldn’t work and why he wouldn’t want me. *sigh*
