To the musician crowd, what is your approach on practicing scale, modes and arpeggios?
I try to follow the Victor Wooten approach of making it musical first but I'm not sure how much is really sticking in a conscious usable way...

Musicians of the 'verse, lend me your knowledge:

I want to learn to read music properly. I've been "reading" music for 30 odd years, but I can't tell you what where a G is on a stave. I can work it out eventually (Every Good Boy etc), but not point and tell you (a bit like my math. I can eventually work out what 6x4 is, but not off the batt).

Send me learning resources which are good for people like me, with a bonus if its FOSS, Android based and cheap.
