  1. Lotsa #perseid meteors automatically captured by my #ukmon / #gmn camera while we were away on holiday 🤩

  2. Several bright #perseid #meteors last night, and over 800 matched by the #ukmon cameras. Pics below, and a list the 100 brightest here

  3. I think i can call time on the 2023 #Lyrid #meteor shower now. A full report is available at the link below, but TLDR:

#UKMON made 2039 single-station detections, 88% of which were involved in multistation matches, leading to 331 confirmed matched Lyrids. 144 cameras were involved in matches. The brightest was mag -2.6; there were no fireballs or potential meteorite droppers.

The peak of observations was on the night of 23/24 April, but this reflects poor weather (...)

  4. Our NW facing #GMN #RaspberryPi #MeteorCamera did capture the mag -5.6 #Fireball this morning but the sky was too bright for analysis. I grabbed this from the nightly timelapse video. Analysis is on the #UKMON archive: tinyurl.com/4pf6r8hp

  5. MeteorGlobe

Recent #meteors picked up by the #ukmon and other meteor detection #astronomy camera networks around the world, in glorious interactive #3D

  6. Update on the #Quadrantid #meteor shower as observed by #ukmon:
The network picked up just under 3000 meteors from 138 cameras, leading to 416 confirmed orbits. Many events were seen by several cameras (median 8 cameras). The observed peak was on the morning of 04/Jan when we detected ~250 per hour and confirmed about 80.

  7. Hourly #geminid confirmed detections for the last two days across the #UKMON network

  8. The #GeminidsMeteorShower peak was around 03:00UT this morning. Despite partly cloudy skies we detected hundreds of #meteors across our 4 #RMS cameras + over 1,200 matched events across #UKMON! Here are the track-stacks #Geminids #MeteorShower #Meteors #Geminids2022 #RaspberryPiMeteorCamera

  9. Sooo many #meteorites detected last night as part of the #ukmon network. All part of the #Geminids shower. Here is a typical view from my roof over night, a shooting star every few minutes

  10. Meteor sighting
Before too long I'll post some more detail here about another project I've been working on for a year or so now, specifically providing data to the UK Meteor Network. Essentially you can install a camera connected to a Raspberry Pi running software that allows for the constant monitoring of an area of the night sky, with a few to capturing images of meteors. The data is then processed centrally to estab

  11. The November Orionids #meteors peaked last night. #UKMON picked up about 4000 possibles, leading to 247 confirmed orbits. The brightest was mag -3.8

  12. Plenty of #fireball meteors this year too. This one, from 15th November, was part of the Taurid Resonant Swarm. You can see its orbit and trajectory on the #ukmon website here:

  13. The #NorthernTaurids will be rumbling on for a bit longer. This #meteor shower doesn't have a well defined peak but since mid-September, #ukmon has picked up about 4500 NTAs.

  14. The #Leonids #meteor shower peaked last night and despite the weather, detected activity was high across the #ukmon camera network. Overall we've detected 1550 leonid meteors and matched over 200 orbits.
