  12. The Bay Area gives you worse odds than the lottery when it comes to clear skies for important astronomic events like the Perseid meteor shower. This one is from 2018. I have not been able to get lucky again. Fingers crossed for tomorrow, but forecast is for clouds/fog at exactly the peak hours...🤞 #perseid #astro #photography #astrophotography

  17. Hey y’all! The universe is about to put on a hella show for everyone…especially parts of Europe. Tomorrow, August 12, 2026 will be a triple hitter in the skies!

There will be a rare six-planet alignment called a "planet parade," with Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune visible in the pre-dawn sky. The best viewing time is approximately 30–60 minutes before sunrise. You’ll need binoculars or a telescope for the last two.

But that’s not all! Come for the parade, but stay for the eclipse and settle in for the fireworks of the #Perseid meteor shower peak. It’s an all day celestial party!

Oh, and don’t forget, gravity is going to be turned off at 14:33 UTC for seven seconds, so hold on to something. (Gravity is not being turned off, it’s a very silly internet conspiracy. That’s not how physics works. That’s not how any of this works.)

  27. Here is another spectrogram, now made with WSJT-X in FT-8 mode.I ignore the decoder and use only the wide graph at it's maximal size.

The small, nearly horizontal line at about 1/3 from top is a reflection from a meteor. All other curved lines are reflections from airplanes or satellites. The vertical line in the center (nearly invisible) is the directly received signal.

Signal is again the french Graves Radar at 143.050 MHz.

  32. An inner city location is not ideal for observing meteor showers but caught myself a bright #Perseid here. The meteor appears in a single 1 sec exposure of a small sensor planetary cam with a 4.5 mm CCTV lens. The image is a maximum stack of 21 frames to reduce background noise. #astrophotography
