  1. UK News Live | Jacob Rees-Mogg Unloads on Starmer Amid Political Chaos | Labour Party | Farage

Capital Economics, the distinguished city forecaster, has predicted that if Starmer is replaced, gilt yields will rise and the pound will weaken, which is likely to lead to a financial crisis. However, even in the unlikely event that Starmer manages to cling on, I believe this is likely to happen anyway. #live #keirstarmer #starmer #uknewslive #ukeconomics #farage

  15. After 15 years of #stagnation, parts of #UK are now poorer than the poorest parts of Slovenia and Lithuania (report by #NIESR see extracts & link below).

    The #ConservativeParty / #Tory came into #government (#TheresaMay #BorisJohnson #LizTruss #RishiSunak) and messed up!

But #Labour (#KeirStarmer) hasn't been doing a good job either. It now has 4 years to prove itself. Time flies.

  24. CW: Britain's £335bn debt disaster - analysis by Citi Investment bank

Britain is asking the international Gilts (Bond) market to buy more of our government debt than ever before.
The interest they charge will depend on the level of risk they perceive of us to be.
This considerably reduces the tax and spend options open to our government.

  25. CW: Content warning - UK politics

    @RuthYeoman
HS2 is a capital project and our international investors expect us to continue to invest in our infrastructure.
Hunt's problem is that government revenue from taxation is less than government operational spending on energy subsidies, public sector wages etc.
I sympathise with the environmental impact of HS2 on the Chilterns, but that's less than building another M40 through the Chilterns which would be the alternative.

  28. CW: What is the UK’s fiscal black hole? The £58bn question

    Weaker economic outlook £23bn
    Mini budget tax cuts £16bn
    Higher borrowing costs £19bn
    (Source Resolution Foundation)
No one knows what our future borrowing costs or economic outlook will be in the future.
Cut and tax much will push UK further into recession but not doing so risks higher borrowing costs.
Our economic future depends on the reaction of the bond markets to Hunt's plans.

  31. CW: Family bosses ‘better than outsiders at inspiring enthusiasm’

As a family owned manufacturing company in the UK we use the Mittelstand model of continuous reinvestment in our business and support of our local community. We also invest for the next generation and take a long term perspective on investment.
It's a shame that more UK companies are not like us but we are considered to be "old fashioned and not the future".
