What I've learned about #academia over these #UCUstrikes is that too many of us (& for sure I'm not immune!) value the "output" of our jobs over our colleagues we do it with.

Sure, we need to enjoy our job and feel it is making a difference; and we want our stuff read and engaged with - it's what gives us our worth. But the chronic alienation of contemporary academic work is a massive factor of the current ills, which we fundamentally need to address.

@debruine I'm on strike too, as part of #UCUstrikes action to support another 'world class' part of our domestic infrastructure.

I haven't crossed digital or campus picket today but I find when I have a period of time to do nothing but think, I can't help ideas coming to me which promise breakthroughs at work - insights, new directions, problems solved, those kinds of thing. I note them down. And I think this makes our point: our uncontrollable workloads make many of us too strung out to be as thoughtful as these roles require. This is one of the messages we're trying to get across #ucuRISING #ucustrikes
