@alexprichard My first thought is: "we will get a trash offer from #UCEA in the next round if we don't", which is understandable. But strike-loss & higher pay-rise might negate each other. And it doesn't solve the institutional inequity problem...

#QUB statement on expulsion from #UCEA

So #QUB breaks ranks with the #UCEA hardliners, offers a pay deal acceptable to its staff, #UCU branch and students (who will get all remaining work marked asap), and gets kicked out of #UCEA pour encourager les autres? Smells like desperation.

Just in case you had any doubts about #UCEA and its continued pretence that they're ready and willing to find a solution to the funding crisis in HE, here's their chief, aka VC of Aberdeen, demanding 'maximum pain' for staff participation in #UCU's #MarkingAndAssessmentBoycott.

I don't see a way out of the #UCUStrike without either a government restructuring intervention (which will not happen), or (some) universities leaving the #UCEA collective pay agreement to up pay unilaterally (which #UCU will presumably oppose).

I'm no longer at an institution covered by #USS but i believe #UCEA needs to do better meeting employee needs as represented by #UCU and i believe Neil and Ewan have a case against the USS directors for their neglect of their duties managing the deferred wages (i.e. pensions) of #UKHE workers

You can pitch in to help cover the legal costs of this battle so these two are not on the hook for the cost of standing up for all with pensions in #USS

The University of Cambridge has called on its own employer body, UCEA, to 'urgently' resume negotiations with UCU so that students can graduate.

The move, described as 'hugely significant' by UCU, was communicated via a joint statement signed by Dr Anthony Freeling, acting vice-chancellor of the University of Cambridge and Michael Abberton, president of UCU's Cambridge branch.

More than 50 MPs from five different political parties have written to the body representing university vice-chancellors to condemn threats to deduct up to 100% of staff wages for taking part in a marking and assessment boycott.
