  1. Multiple fast moving wildfires in Oklahoma and Texas.

NOAA has issued a #FireWarning for the shaded areas. Each area is at danger from a fire. For details, open the map, click a shaded area and follow the link.

I have been making #Wildfire #GIS maps for at least 10 years and this is the first time I have seen NOAA issue a “fire warning”.

  2. Various wildfires are burning in Texas and Oklahoma.
This area has both a #RedFlagWarning and #HighWindWarning.
Blowing dust is also an issue.
I-40 is reported to be closed east of Amarillo due to #Wildfire and accidents.

Dark symbols on the map are satellite heat detections within the prior 6 hours. This data is not real time and locations are only approximate. Typically there are 8 satellite passes per 24 hours. I think the next update will be this evening.

Some newer fires, like the one along I-40 in the Texas panhandle, have not yet been detected by the satellites.

  11. Here is the latest satellite hotspot data for the #SmokehouseCreekFire in the Texas Panhandle.

If you open the map and zoom in you will see a uniform pattern in some of the hotspot data. Sometimes (not always) that kind of data indicates the satellite sensors were detecting smoke/embers in the air and not actual fire on the ground. However, never gamble with your life by ignoring an order to evacuate.
