Latest update from Texas A&M The fire is an estimated 1,075,000 acres and 5% contained. Most of the fire received some precipitation yesterday and there was no fire growth. Crews will focus on the northern edge of the fire and areas around structures.

Two people have been confirmed dead. Former substitute teacher Joyce Blankenship, 83, was found dead in her home, family members said. Cindy Owens, believed to be in her 40s, from Amarillo, died Thursday, two days after she got out of her truck in Canadian and the fire "overtook her," officials said.

"The #SmokehouseCreekFire in Hutchinson County, had reached an estimated 1,075,000 acres and was 3% contained as of 3 p.m. Thursday.
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller told The News Wednesday the fires had already killed up to “tens of thousands of head of cattle” and closed at least 13 school districts."

The latest update from NIFC indicates the fire is at 1,078,807.77 acres, with no update to containment at this time. The 687 Reamer fire burned into the Smokehouse fire and perimeters are now being combined for the two fires into the Smokehouse mapping. All future updates to the 687 Reamer will occur here.
