With Goblin, probably I won't be using inline hashtags at all! AP has tags in the JSON, it has just been convention that the twitter-likes at least* only really support populating them with in-body hashtags.
With a Tumblr-like we can do them all out of band, though that isn't the setup right now (there is separate space to enter and display them however)
There is some question of visibility, if we care about other server types being able to see the tags... If Goblin gets even a half-decent following though, I personally won't care.
*dunno about e.g. pixelfed, lemmy, etc

Dear People
I joined the #Fediverse to get away from the birdshite, so please STOP telling me about your #Twitteresk #Twitteresque #TwitterLike UIs. -
I will say that #Calckey’s #UIUX is pretty busy and there are a LOT of features that I haven’t even looked into yet. I would not recommend it as an intro to the #Fediverse at all, #Mastodon is better for that (especially with a #frontend like #Elk).
Maybe a simplified and (as much as I loathe to say this) #Twitter-like interface should be an option out of the box. Something familiar, with a lot of the additional features hidden. Once someone is up to speed, they can choose to switch to the UI with all the options - or maybe stay with the simplified version if that’s enough for them. -

I see many toots, where people request #Twitterlike functions like '#quote-tweets'
In my view, these quote-tweets on #Twitter have evolved into something like a pair of magic high-top sneakers dispensed to every user: Anyone can botch a tweet, and anyone can leap over him or her to score a couple of points—or a couple thousand #likes and #retweets...
But I think aiming at likes and retweets is not what #Mastodon is all about....

@econtwitters and @econmastodons: remember the equivalent of a #TwitterLike is the #Boost... #star is equivalent to favorite so you can keep it in #favourites folder and find it if you need to... 😄
