Danke

  3. Seems I’ve been “timed out” or something on Threads. They’re preventing me from doing reposts (basically “retweets” for Threads) and I don’t know why.

  4. #Mastodon:
Boosts, Shares, Reblogs, Retweets or Retoots? 😋

    The official version (with - 1 x “ - too much 🤓 ):

““Boost” (as in “signal boost” or “rocket boost”) is a synonym of “reblog” or “retweet” in Mastodon.“

PS - The interesting story why the #toot was retired:

  5. Been saying my goodbyes on #Twitter. Gearing up for #deletion of my account after a decade on there. Any #advice on backing up data? Main problem I'm having is with #retweets - they seem to be prematurely cut-off.

  6. CW: #VirusTotal #infosec re: #OligarchBirdSite #bans #Substack

So after hearing soooo much about the #OligarchBirdSite banning #SubStack links and #retweets and wotnot I decided a good use of my daily quota should go to digging into the www . SubStack . Com backend to see where the ... 🔎☣️🔍🧐 warnings are all about.

    Was. Not. Disappoint. 🔎☣️🔍

Now imagine my surprise as the site had NOT been scanned in over TWO MONTHS! Two! M O N T H S!

    Exec Summary:

One vendor did throw a 'spam' warning. Several dodgy html pages and other 'red is a bad element's stuff.

  7. Mastodon Twitter-Retweets ausblenden

    Screenshot Mastodon Filter bearbeiten

  8. #CaseyNewton: Why #journalists can't #quit #birdsite. The #media should be building #alternatives. Instead, some are #doublingdown..among the 900 or so #tech and #media professionals I follow usage is basically steady. The #timeline may scroll a little more slowly than it used to, but everyone is still showing up for their daily dose of sparring for #retweets. And I think it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on why. platformer.news/p/why-journali

  9. @maxleibman

Another great feature in apps like #Megalodon and #Fedilabs is the ability to hide replies in timelines.

This promotes the feature of #threads. Because you only see the original top post and no posts out of context. So if you see a post and you are interested in the content and replies, you can click on it and go down the tree of comments. This is way better on #Mastodon than #Twitter.

I really like the idea of threads here on Mastodon. It allows for an idea based conversation, where every post is a single topic but is tied together to a larger conversation by the top post.

Similar to these 4 posts I've made now.

    #timelines #boost #boosts #favorite #favorites #Mastodon #Twitter #retweets #Likes #Algorithm #Tweets #fediverse #instances #favourites

  10. @maxleibman

The problem, however, with these #timelines that aren't governed by some algorithm, is that you can easily see the same post over and over.

I follow a few accounts that are interconnected with each other. We all interact with the same content. So when they all #boost a post, I see the original and 5 #boosts.

This is, however, fixed with clients, allowing me to hide boosts from my timelines. Which isn't the best solution. We should rather be allowed to hide boosts of accounts we already follow because I've already seen that post or eventually will in my timeline.

  11. @maxleibman

I've actually thought about it a lot. I want to see the posts that people that I follow #favorite. I want to see what they are up to and doing.

But if we allow this, it goes against the principle that #boosts are for you and #favorites for the original poster.

If the people that I follow want me to see something, they would reply to a post or boost it.

With #Mastodon not sorting our timelines by favorite count and number of boosts, I actually see all of the posts of people I follow and content doesn't get lost, and I love it.

  12. @maxleibman

#Twitter, on the other hand, has a problem with #retweets and #likes. People don't use them correctly and often use both.

This paired with the #algorithm leads to a few #tweets being spammed across the entire site and other posts getting lost in the ocean of tweets.

My experience on Twitter over 10 years had far less interaction than my 3 months on #Mastodon.

On Twitter, my posts just disolved into nothing, where I now get many #favorites and #boosts on all my posts.

I also get replies and interaction here because people actually see my content and aren't obsessed with one or two celebrity accounts.

    #Mastodon #boosts #fediverse #instances #favourites #favorites

  13. @olliepalmer @mimsical @heycaseywattsup

The other thing is the disappearance of the obsession with #retweets and #likes.

Yes, I get a kick out of it when I get a #boost or a #favorite. But while browsing #Mastodon in apps like #megalodon, the number of boots and favorites for a post isn't shown until I click on it.

So, my decision to interact with something is my own. I don't feel, "Oh wow, 10000 boosts, this is relevant."

  14. So #BirdSite shared the error message of "Sorry! You have exceeded your Tweet limit. Try Retweet again tomorrow"

Say what now? Based on my profile, I only shared 3 #retweets today. I'll have to ration them better. Sorry everyone, only WSDL members get my retweets now. 😆

Then I found I could not #Tweet at all. DMs no longer load. I can't follow anyone.

The #TwitterTakeover is going so well. #TwitterDown #Twitter

#Mastodon #Fediverse for the win! Thanks for welcoming me here!

  15. I stopped cross-posting RTs from #Twitter to #Mastodon because I thought some people might find them annoying. Now I’m firmly in the cross-posted-RTs-are-annoying camp. 😬 #crossPosting #retweets #noxp

  17. @brooklynmarie
On #twitter I ditched the algorithm and ads by reading chronologically with #Tweetbot

But I always filtered simple #retweets which I found overwhelming, instead just following People’s tweets and #QuoteTweets

For me, it filters for better content to remove simple boosts than #boosts with added content, so if we’re creating our own #algorithm I’d like to do that

Making “#reboosts” higher friction maybe, and voluntary for the original poster?

    But I might like them

  18. I see many toots, where people request #Twitterlike functions like '#quote-tweets'

In my view, these quote-tweets on #Twitter have evolved into something like a pair of magic high-top sneakers dispensed to every user: Anyone can botch a tweet, and anyone can leap over him or her to score a couple of points—or a couple thousand #likes and #retweets...

But I think aiming at likes and retweets is not what #Mastodon is all about....

    @Gargron

  19. Deleted #Twitter from all my devices. From now on, I won’t be favoriting or boosting any toots or posts that are #Retweets. #DontCrossPost
