  1. I ran 15.5km this morning! The longest I've ran in about 10 years now, and still plenty of fuel left in the tank when I finished. 3 months until my half. Feeling good!

  2. I did a run today, but I ran against power instead of pace. In theory, I think I prefer it to running against pace, as power is more immediately responsive than pace, yet also somehow less inclined to weird momentary GPS fluctuations. The biggest issue I had was the implementation on my watch. When running to pace, TrainAsOne sets a pace band that I try and keep in the middle of, but when I manually created a run by power, I couldn't define my own power range. All I could do was choose "Power Zone 1", "Power Zone 2" etc, which each zone being much wider than the range I was used to.

So even though it felt better when I was running it, the need to manually convert and create the run, instead of having it auto sync from TrainAsOne, combined with the overly broad ranges I was limited to, I don't think it's quite "there" enough for me to use on the regular.

  3. Today's run. Tomorrow off, and then parkrun on Saturday.

This week was a bit easier than last week. More speed work and less miles so my legs don't feel as fatigued as they did this time a week ago.

I'm also running in a new pair of shoes, as even though my old one were only at half their distance lifespan, I could feel the torsion in my shin occurring again, as the shoes lost their support. This is the same issue that caused my stress fracture several years ago, and that's not an experience I'm keen to repeat.

  4. Here is (most of) my lifetime of running, as shown in TrainAsOne over 11 years. It started when I was 39, and shows up until now, when I'm 50.

It includes two bouts of pneumonia, three surgical recoveries, covid lockdowns, and a hormonal gender transition.

What's facinating to me though is that my current total load is almost equal to what it was when I was at the peak of my running form, and my acute (short term) load is higher than it was back then!

The second image shows the change in my pace over those years. Each line represents my pace at a different point, whether it be my pace at my VO2Max, my lactate threshold or my maximum running efficiency.

Looking at it all in one place didn't really tell me anything new as such, but it's pretty amazing to be able to view my entire running history in one place like that

  5. 2 days ago, I did my longest run since 2020 at just over 11km. Today, I ran just over 12km, making it my new longest run since 2020.

And it feels easy! Which is great, because that's how it used to feel! It's not fast, but I felt like I could have just kept going!

I'm being careful not to overdo it by making sure my milage doesn't increase drastically from week to week to give my soft tissue and bones time to adjust. But my cardio system is chafing for more!

  6. An 11.3km run today, which is my longest run since 2020!

The weather was nice, the pace was easy, and I felt good when I finished!

    Love it!

  7. Another week of running down! 16 weeks left until my HM.

This week, I had a slightly easier week than last week. Just over 4 hours on my feet, 34km down. Aside from parkrun and a single Tabata run on Tuesday, it was all slow training miles. Next week should pick up the pace a bit, with more speedwork planned!

One of the challenges with my running is that I'm carrying more weight than I want to at the moment, which is making it harder to hold pace, as I tend to overheat more than I should. The cool weather will help, and hopefully I'll reduce my body fat levels too, but that latter effort is happening a bit more slowly than I would like.

  8. My week in running

Just under 40K in total for the week. I started with parkrun and a couple of shorter interval style runs, and finished the week with a 9km and 10km run.

Next week is looking to be similar!

  9. 10km done and dusted!

My first 10km in 18 month, since I did the Bridge to Brisbane in 2024.

A long way from when I used to run 10km everyday, but that was chasing away demons, but equally, a long way from not running at all!

  10. Yay, tomorrow is my first scheduled 10km run in a while. I've had several that have come close to 10km, but slightly under, but tomorrow, I'm going the distance!

  11. I'm not loving using my general fediverse instance to post my running stuff, mostly because I'm not loving the lack of integration and the manual screenshots I need to do etc.

I'd really love something that could just export my run ready to post, with some comments, rather than having to manually craft the whole thing.

To that end, I'm trying something different. We'll see how it sticks.

Anyway, this is my week in running (last week).

Started with a parkrun on Saturday, but I used it as a chance to do a TrainAsOne 3.2km assessment run, which helps the platform assess my fitness by seeing how I handle running 3.2km (2 miles) as fast as I could.

It was a week for assessment runs, as I had two others in the same week. A 6 minute assessment run ib Monday (run as far as I can in 6 minutes) and Thursday had a Perceived Effort assessment (run at a self assessed easy pace for the duration of the run, ideally without looking at the watch).

I finished the week up with a threshold run on Thursday and a Tabata run on Friday. The Tabata is a series of really short intervals (20 seconds) with 10 second cool down between them, but it felt a bit too easy. I feel like I needed more repeats.

    All up, 30km this week.

  12. I managed to fit today's run in between the periods of rain today, so that was a win. It's not quite warm enough anymore for me to feel comfortable running in the rain. Too many experiences with pneumonia to want to roll those dice again.

But in any case, today was another economy run, but this time at a slightly improved pace over my last run, as TrainAsOne works with my improving fitness. In the graph, at the bottom of the image, the top of the grey section represents my goal pace, and as you can see, I was pretty bang on the money for most of the run, and it felt right for slow easy miles.

  13. parkrun today, but I took the chance to do a TrainAsOne assessment run, as the assessment run was just over 5km in length. In this case, the assessment was a 3.2km assessment, which meant a slow run, then flat out for 3.2km, followed by a short recovery, and then finishing with a slow run.

The good thing about these runs is that it lets TrainAsOne update my fitness, and adjust my training paces accordingly, so thankfully, my future runs will see a small improvement in my training pace. I've been getting a bit frustrated with how slow my training pace has felt recently, so hopefully this will feel a bit better.

  14. Today's run was Interval training. 5 intervals of 3 minutes at 5:38 pace, with 3 minute cool downs between, and a warm up and cool down at either end. I still feel like these runs aren't quite pushing me enough. I needed either a couple more repeats, or a faster pace.

I'll do an assessment run at parkrun tomorrow and hopefully that will update the numbers its working with a give me something a bit meatier.

  15. Another almost 10km run today, still at economy pace. I'm starting to get frustrated with how slow economy pace feels, which is good and bad. They're meant to feel like easy miles, and it's good that a 10km run can feel easy, but I need to sink my teeth in to some pace work!

Thankfully, I have an interval run on Friday! Can't wait

    #running #trainAsOne #workout

  16. Today's run was Threshold run. 7 minutes at economy training pace, and then two rounds of 6 minutes at threshold pace, with a 2 minute gap, finishing up with another 7 minute economy cool down

I definitely feel like I need to do another assessment run with TrainAsOne so that it can update my current fitness levels, as the runs are starting to feel a little too easy now that it's cooling down.

  17. Today's run was a Tabata run. 14 minutes at training pace before, 8 20 second repeats at sprint pace, with 10 second cool down, finishing with another 14 minutes at training pace.

As always, I struggle with getting the pace right on the high speed bursts, because the Garmin lags slightly in showing my pace, so it's almost over before I know whether I was on the mark. But still, it felt pretty easy today, and viewing the graph after I finished, it looks like I got it vaguely accurate :)

  18. Today's run was an economy run at close to 10km. My longest in a while, and pretty easy because of the slow pace.

    #running #workout #TrainAsOne

  19. Another progression run today. Three 20 minute legs, each progressively faster, finishing at a goal pace of 6:15 (Which is about my 5k pace). It was quite hot towards the end, so I struggled to maintain the pace in the last leg. I'm regretting the late night and the sleep in :p

    #workout #running #TrainAsOne

  20. Interval run today. 5 sets of 3 minute intervals at fast pace (5:35m/km). I left it a little bit later in the morning, so it started to warm up, but overall, it felt pretty good.

    #running #workout #TrainAsOne

  21. Today, TrainAsOne pushed me a little bit harder than I was able to sustain.

It had me doing slightly faster than my 5km pace, in 3 10minute bursts, with 9 minutes of slow run before and after.

Having run parkrun yesterday, by the third fast segment of today's run, I was struggling to maintain consistent pace, and slipped below the goal.

But still, a month ago, I couldn't have done this, so, it's all heading in the right direction!

  22. A valentines parkrun today. Light drizzle, and cooler weather meant that I did a pretty good time today. I'll be back under 30 minutes in a few weeks I hope.

    #parkrun #running #workout #TrainAsOne

  23. Today's planned workout was a Threshold run. A slow opening leg and closing leg, with two 10 minute fast paced legs in the middle.

    #TrainAsOne #workout #running

  24. I've increased my runs to 5 times a week, which means that TrainAsOne is giving me more shorter runs to keep my week by week build up at the same rate. So another quick economy run today, not much to note. Next run will be Friday, which will be a longer one

    #running #workout #TrainAsOne

  25. Today's run was a short economy pace run. Nothing much to see here.

    #running #TrainAsOne #workout

  26. parkrun this morning, but I used it as a chance to do my TrainAsOne 6 minute assessment run. So a slow start, followed by 6 minutes of running flat out and finishing the rest of the 5km, trying to keep my heart rate in zone 3.

So even though I had a sprint in the middle, overall, it was a slow stopwatch time at parkrun today. But, TrainAsOne needs these assessment runs to determine my fitness and pace, so a worthy sacrifice :)

    #parkrun #TrainAsOne #running #workout

  27. Today's run was a progression run. A slow pace for 17 minutes, medium pace for 17 minutes and fast pace for 17 minutes, followed by a recorded 5 minute cooldown jog/walk so TrainAsOne can assess my recovery.

(For who don't want to see my running posts, I will always use the
#workout hashtag, so you can mute that tag to avoid them)

I left it too late in the morning though, and the temperature had risen higher than I expected, so I struggled with the heat a lot. I hit a HR max of 171, which is higher than I've gone in a long time! I'm carrying extra body fat since covid, and that makes it harder for me to shed heat during hard runs, which I feel on days like today!

One day I'm going to come to terms with the fact that my "fast" pace today is slower than my old training pace, but today is not that day :P

    But, I did it!

  28. Slowly rebuilding my running again. Gone back to #trainAsOne for the training plan.
