A Toco Toucan at Birdworld in Surrey

When I took the shot the angle of the sun was such that when it turned its head side-on its bill was lit from behind - as a result you can see some of the many blood vessels running through it.

In 2009 scientists reported that the toucan can use its bill for thermal regulation, it's able to radiate heat through it to cool down: https://www.science.org/content/article/bird-big-air-conditioning-bill
