Today I deleted my accounts on Tinder and Bumble. The DataFarming was concerned from day 1, and the enshittification is accelerating on both. With more and more features disappearing behind paywalls, or web interfaces being scrapped, to force installation of the app (for more DataFarming).
Besides, I never got a single date out of using either of them, and I've tried them both a few times over the years. I did make a friend through Bumble, once, but ...

No nos volvimos más libres.
Nos volvimos más fáciles de domesticar.
Antes bastaban relojes para controlar el tiempo. Hoy llevamos en el bolsillo máquinas capaces de medir cada paso, cada palabra, cada fotografía, cada segundo de atención y cada instante de aburrimiento.
Y todavía creemos que las usamos nosotros.
La mentira más elegante del siglo XXI no es la inteligencia artificial.
Es la gamificación.
Todo tiene una barra de progreso.
Todo tiene un nivel.
Todo tiene una insignia.
Todo tiene una racha.
Todo tiene un contador.
Ya no aprendemos idiomas.
Mantenemos llamas virtuales.
Ya no hacemos ejercicio.
Cerramos anillos.
Ya no compartimos fotografías.
Perseguimos alcance.
Ya no escribimos.
Alimentamos algoritmos.
Ya no conversamos.
Respondemos notificaciones.
Todo parece un juego.
Nada parece una cárcel.
Ese fue el verdadero genio del diseño moderno.
Las prisiones dejaron de parecer prisiones.
Ahora parecen aplicaciones bonitas, coloridas y llenas de recompensas.
No hace falta obligarte.
Te convencerán de volver mañana.
Y tú volverás creyendo que fue decisión tuya.
Las redes sociales descubrieron que un “me gusta” vale más que una conversación.
Las aplicaciones de idiomas descubrieron que una racha pesa más que el conocimiento.
Las plataformas de video descubrieron que el siguiente video importa más que el anterior.
Las empresas descubrieron que un gráfico motiva más que un aumento de sueldo.
Los gobiernos descubrieron que un ciudadano entretenido hace menos preguntas.
Todo el mundo aprendió la misma lección:
No vendas resultados.
Vende indicadores.
La tragedia es que terminamos confundiendo una cosa con la otra.
Una persona presume mil días de Duolingo.
Perfecto.
¿Puede sostener una conversación de diez minutos?
Otra presume leer cien libros al año.
Perfecto.
¿Cuántos le cambiaron la forma de pensar?
Otra presume diez mil seguidores.
Perfecto.
¿Cuántos aparecerían si necesitara ayuda para mudarse de casa?
Vivimos enamorados del marcador.
Olvidamos mirar el partido.
Y lo peor es que defendemos nuestra rueda.
Si alguien elimina Instagram, lo llaman exagerado.
Si rompe una racha de mil días, le dicen que desperdició el esfuerzo.
Si apaga las notificaciones, preguntan qué le pasó.
Como si la normalidad consistiera en estar permanentemente disponible para una máquina.
Nos enseñaron a sentir culpa por detenernos.
Ansiedad por desconectarnos.
Vacío por no producir datos.
La economía ya no necesita solamente trabajadores.
Necesita usuarios.
No necesita ciudadanos.
Necesita consumidores de atención.
Cada clic alimenta una base de datos.
Cada segundo mirando una pantalla alimenta un modelo.
Cada desplazamiento del dedo tiene valor económico.
Nos convencieron de que el producto era gratuito.
Hasta que descubrimos que el producto éramos nosotros.
Por eso ya casi nadie soporta el silencio.
Cinco minutos esperando una fila parecen insoportables.
Diez minutos sin revisar el celular producen inquietud.
Una tarde sin publicar parece una oportunidad perdida.
El aburrimiento, ese lugar donde antes nacían las ideas, fue reemplazado por una notificación.
Y mientras celebramos nuestras estadísticas personales, alguien celebra las estadísticas reales.
Las de nuestro tiempo.
Las de nuestra atención.
Las de nuestros hábitos.
Las de nuestra dependencia.
No estoy diciendo que abandonemos la tecnología.
Sería absurdo.
La tecnología es una herramienta extraordinaria.
Lo peligroso comienza cuando la herramienta empieza a diseñar nuestro comportamiento mejor de lo que nosotros diseñamos el suyo.
Ese día dejamos de usar el sistema.
El sistema empezó a usarnos.
La libertad no consiste en romper todas las ruedas.
Consiste en reconocer cuándo una rueda nos está haciendo avanzar…
…y cuándo solo nos mantiene corriendo para que alguien más cuente nuestros pasos.
Operario de cámara. Observador de la zoociedad. Porque no toda barra de progreso conduce a algún lugar.
