I fell down the YT rabbit hole and ended up at the story of Terry Fox. For those who don't know, Terry had a leg amputated in 1980, and then set about a run across Canada (not the short way either), to raise money for cancer research. Unfortunately, he didn't make it, and died after reaching Thunder Bay. However, his dream lives on in multiple Terry Fox runs around the world generating millions to combat cancer. It's a story that still chokes me up now. Here's the link for his story, also check out Steve Fonyo, and Rick Hansen, more Canadian heroes doing insane things for great causes.

Two young men with the last name Fox went to high school 24kms apart just outside of Vancouver, BC in the mid 1970s. Both young men would inspire the world and combine to fundraise over $3billion for Cancer and Parkinson’s research. Two amazing Canadians, Terry Fox and Michael J Fox.

I've seen the jug of water at the Terry Fox museum installations in Ottawa and Victoria.
I did not know however that the second jug got washed out to sea. This is news to me. That means so much.

On this day 40 years ago Terry Fox, a 21 year old Canadian who lost a leg to cancer, began an east to west cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. He ran the equivalent of a full marathon every day for 143 days before having to stop.

The Terry Fox Memorial overlooks the highway and the water and everyone who passes by. It's majestic, a fitting tribute to the dauntlessness of the greatest Canadian.
