Terminaux 8.8 – Search Selection
It’s October 2026 here, and Terminaux 8.7 was released a while ago to provide you with theme customization, improved Terminaux shell, and color conversion features, as well as many other improvements and fixes that make your console applications even more powerful.
Just like the last release, it’s a monthly release that brings new features and improvements to make Terminaux-powered applications more reliable. This is part of our broader goal that allows us to make improvements to existing applications, such as Nitrocid.
We are now very excited to release Terminaux 8.8, which brings some more improvements and new features over the previous release. We have enhanced user experience in some areas of the library.
Cancellation of inputs
We have implemented changes to the input reader so that applications can finally determine whether input was cancelled or not. Instead of letting applications guess, from the computer’s perspective, whether the input has been cancelled or submitted.
The previous implementation used not to distinguish between these two states. By adding new states that allow applications to tell whether the input was cancelled or not, we have made it much easier for your apps to act correctly in both states.
Input informational boxes now make use of this feature so that interactive textual UI applications can properly distinguish between the two states.
New search modes
Terminaux used to provide you with a case-insensitive search tool for choices and selections. One of the changes we made during development of a major Terminaux version was to replace this tool with a regular expression based tool to enable more efficient searches.
However, we understand that users may need to quickly search for a choice without having to remember the exact letter cases, or may need searches to be quicker when searching through thousands of choices.
So, we have restored the case-insensitive search tool while keeping the regular expression search mode, in case you still need advanced searches.
Table choice styles
In the old-school choice style, we had removed table choice styles since version 5.0 because a refactor to the table renderer caused it to no longer be suitable. Since then, we had introduced lots of changes to how we rendered elements, such as introducing simple and graphical cyclic writers.
Because of our efforts that were poured to the release of version 8.7 on August, we had determined that the table renderer was finally suitable enough due to the changes we made to it.
Now, we are proud to bring back the table choice style that we used to have before version 5.0, but with many enhancements that were done since its removal.
