So… the first book of Naomi Novik's #Temeraire series didn't really do it for me, so I had pretty much ignored her stuff. Earlier today, almost on a whim, I picked up the first of the #Scholomance books and bloody hell, it's glorious. Inhaled the book in a few hours. Great world building, a fabulous lead character and a kind of Buffy vibe without any of the Whedon ickiness.

I reckon I would have fallen even harder for it if I'd read it in my teens :)

I should do #CurrentlyReading so here goes. I'm actually going to back a bit in time as I have a couple of series going.

I noticed this on the recommendation on pluralistic.net by the always excellent @pluralistic . The #Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. It's impossible for me to resist the Napoleonic Wars with dragons.

I just read part 7 of the #Temeraire series by Naomi Novik, #fantasy about the Napoleonic wars but with #dragons. This part featured an Inca empress, colorful feathered dragons and freed slaves, it was great, broke my novel reading slump 🥳 But I'm scared to go on because there will be amnesia in book 8, not one of my preferred tropes...
Has anyone read the last 2 books and can help me decide whether to stop here or not?

@pluralistic Well put and I would add that these books are tremendously well suited to reading aloud. Not all good books are, but wow. I just barely discovered this series in time to be able to read it to my children at bedtime. Aloud, the narrative voice reminds me of E Nesbit in its intimate charm and the deep affection for the characters that it evokes. Also Iskierka freaking rocks every scene she is in!
