X's #Algorithm Feeds Off #Ragebait and Impacts #Democrats More, Study Finds

X’s algorithm learns what you hate and shows you more of it, according to a new study just published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (#PNAS ). The paper, titled Value misalignment of X’s feed algorithm is a reflection of value tensions in engagement, found that the site’s algorithm prioritized #engagement above all else when it generated a user’s #ForYouPage. It also showed that X serves more ragebait to people who say they are Democrats, although the exact reason for that is unclear.

“In 2026 that’s maybe not the most surprising headline ever,” Ziv Epstein, a postdoctoral researcher at #Stanford University, and co-author of the paper, told 404 Media. “… it turns out that X's feed algorithm, like a lot of these #socialmedia algorithms, is optimized for engagement [but] it turns out that not all types of engagement are considered equally.”

@markveldhuis @chockenberry #Apple #AppStore Review Guidelines mandate that if your app offers third-party sign in, such as with #Facebook, #Google, #Teitter, #LinkedIn, #Amazon, or #LinkedIn, you have to have #SignInWithApple as well. Otherwise they won’t approve your app.

I’ll just add to Jarvis’ article on what #Mastodon and SM protocol structured communication product is or isn’t (vs the #teitter model):
I believe it can matter immensely who owns the server you’re on re: privacy (data harvesting of yr signup info), yr tweets/posts, if there’s a means for that server host to suppress, delete your posts or yr presence frm posting thru that server — incldg deleting prior things u post. Of course, w/ this protocol approach, you can host yr own server.. 1/
