Quite incredible. A wonderful taonga that needs to sail home permanently.What got me was the smell. Dry, dusty. A mix of flax and hessian.
The "collector" kept no provenance, so we don't know if was gifted, stolen or sold. We don't even know its awa.

This just annoys the living crap out of me... many of our priceless and precious images of the past, from a single news conglomerate in #Aotearoa #NZ #taonga were sent to America to be digitised, but never came back... and now they are being sold there and we have to buy them back. #DigitalSovereignty is so vital and important. If you had asked me 20 years ago that I would see #Kaka and #Kakariki freely flying around #Wellington I would have said you were dreaming.
It is amazing how far we have come with these precious #taonga
I will do my best to make sure our future is filled with #Kiwi roaming freely within the bush.
