Although #Scotland has done really well in keeping down the #murder rate in #cities and large towns, they might still have issues in #rural areas - this whole case is like a real life episode of #Taggart [1]
[1] A 1980s/90s detective drama series from Scottish Television (it might even be familiar to some in USA as I think it got exported there)

"There’s a joke in #BlazingSaddles, about an event that took place several thousand years ago, that maybe hasn’t aged so well.
It’s in the scene where #HarveyKorman’s conniving Attorney General #HedleyLamarr brainstorms plans to clear away the town of Rock Ridge. #Lamarr’s lackey #Taggart, played by #SlimPickens, makes a modest proposal: “We’ll kill the firstborn male child in every household.”
Lamarr considers the idea, before dismissing it. “Too #Jewish,” he says.
When I heard that quip in a recent rewatch with my girlfriend (her first time), I saw a new reason why you couldn’t make the #film today: Modern audiences, particularly those amateur critics itching to sound off online, seem to have more fluency in #bloodlibels about #Jews than the #Passover narrative #MelBrooks and Co. were riffing on. For those who think the #Epsteinfiles contain damning proof of elites eating babies, “too Jewish” might seem like an admission."

Reminded of a talk I gave 10 years ago today to Economic and Social #History Society of #Scotland #conference. As I wrote then: "My talk on 17th century #Melrose area court records went well. I said two things I didn’t plan to say: “#CSI Melrose”, and “Murrrdddeerr” a la #Taggart! I do improvise a lot in conference talks, never quite sure what I will say!" I can't give any more conference talks due to my progressive neuro illness. #Academia #Disability #ChronicIllness #ScottishHistory #Histodons

BTW Brian Connolly, the lead singer of The Sweet, was the half-brother of Mark McManus, the original star of the TV detective series Taggart. They were both from Glasgow.
