as far as #subtitle formats go we have (from most advanced to least)
* #aegissub - the best most advance which has styling. bezier curves drawings blabla
* #ssa (*ssa)- lower format maybe precursor to aegis
* WebVTT (.vtt) a good standart for web subs. Still inferior to aegis. There is apparantly ytt or something for #youtube specifically...
* #Subrip (.srt) literally the most basic one.
The Textfile of Subtitles. Similar to a cheapo lrc for audio.
And that is most I guess

One cool trick to use YouTube to do this is to generate the .SRT file #SubRip by making the video 'private' but getting youtube to make the .SRT for you. Get an SRT editor and then adjust accordingly as there will be errors.

Keep in mind that iF you are a movie or content creator and post to #Amazon's movie or video marketplace internationally or domesticly.... you are REQUIRED to have a .SRT file. Period.
