#FlyFriday: met this stunningly colourful creature in a big weedy meadow on my way to the grocery store this evening. It's _Chloromyia formosa_, the broad centurion. (Hard to see in this photo but its eyes are indeed lightly hairy, which according to BugGuide distinguishes it from the rest of its subfamily.)

Ok - completely stuck and feeling stupid. What is this #insect that came to light in the Ikara-Flinders National Park two weeks ago?
Massive eyes and pathetically feeble legs remind me of #Stratiomyidae #Chiromyzinae, and the antennae kind of fit.
But the shapes of the head and thorax point away from #Diptera.
The horny patches at the base of the wings (I don't think they're elytra) remind me of something I can't place.
There's a lovely #weevil in the shots too.
