Cat Hicks is a psychologist who knows her stuff re technology workers and workplaces. Read this thread and banish forever the thought that 'women are not good at maths' or technology. She cuts through the baseless arguments that people use to support these stereotypes and points out that it is the social environment that causes differences in abilities. If you are surrounded by adults that tell you that girls are not as good at maths as boys, where women avoid maths and laugh about how bad at it they are, where schools actively encourage boys in maths but not girls, then it is no surprise that the learning girl will conclude that maths is not for them.
And don't for a minute think that women are immune from these stereotypes about women! I have had female teachers explaining to me and their students that girls are bad at maths like we were living in the 1950s. It was the 21st century by the way. Women perpetuate these negative stereotypes as much as men.

Was Rosalind Franklin a victim of sexism in research?
28 February – 70th anniversary of the day Francis Crick walked into the Eagle pub in Bene’t St, Cambridge, and announced: “We have found the secret of life!” Had he and James Watson discovered the chemical structure of DNA by nicking Rosalind Franklin’s data, though?
