I was trying to fully drain my phone battery so I randomly found this tier-list review of Star Ocean First Departure characters. When the guy said "We'll start with the sh*t tier: Ronyx" I burst out laughing. Ilia and Claude (in the SO2R tier list) are both top of the top tier, obviously. "Mom, Dad's dragging us down!!"
(The added irony is that Ronyx/Ronixis is the most lauded one in the in-game universe. Whatever, Dad)

My brain: Hey, let's calculate the SO2 characters' Chinese zodiac signs! We can do it since they have actual years in their birth dates that can be converted into our years!

Stumbled on this video where a genius took the scene from the Star Ocean EX anime of Dias fighting Claude in the forest (note: this doesn't happen in the game, the anime went rogue in a lot of places, often baffling but sometimes inspired), dubbing over it with the original PS1 English battle lines. I laughed so now I share it with you.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the audio quality, by the way. That's exactly how they sounded on PS1.

Happy birthday to my dear Pangalactic Federation ensign Claude C. Kenni from Star Ocean 2~! Today I posted the end-scene for If/Then, a fic I first started writing in 2005. I cannot believe I got here after 21 years, hahaha.
Claude is 19, so It's officially older than Claude 😂 (Technically Claude is something like minus 388 since he's not born yet according to the series space date, but details. Also, don't trust my math.)

A tiny tour of the Project LHIA (Little House In Arlia) log cabin so far! Everything is so wee and cute. I'm very happy with the progress - I never thought I'd be able to make miniatures at this scale, much less Dias and Claude's favourite dishes and even their boots. More silly doodles and lots of photos in the post!

Aw man, I had such a cool dream! I was Claude C. Kenni from Star Ocean 2 in my ceremonial outfit with everyone addressing me as Commander Kenni. I was set to give an important speech to the Pangalactic Federation. I made my entrance with epic sweeping music and everything. I looked up to see the assembly rising before me like the gorgeous blue planetrise that opens up the game. Everyone was hushed as I began the opening of my speech ...and then my alarm went off 😂

Oh yes, progress on 4cm Dias and 3.65cm Claude's Arlian log cabin continues. Their house is filling up with some unidentifiable stuff. lol (they do have a nice carpet/rug now though!)

Did you know: In 1999 after #StarOceanTheSecondStory came out, they released 2 drama CDs (this is the same OG main Japanese cast brought back for the 2023 SO2R remake)!
This one has 3 stories: "In Port Town Herlie/Harley", "Heraldic [Symbology, in the new translation] Weapon Love Story" and "Sudden Side Story" (my attempted translations). I'm using it for listening practice, it's super interesting! Also I'm very far from fluent so I'm struggling, but it's interesting haha.

Year-end art reflections: Remember these SO2 fashion illustrations I did with the goal of drawing everyone? I'd set up a scale to capture everyone's heights correctly. Now whenever I open the file, I go "Mon Dieu, that's a lot of people to draw", and then I close it. Strangely, the number of people I still need to draw does not change.
Moral of the story: don't draw your fave first, because motivation plummets. I knew this, but I was weak. Let this be a lesson to (me) us all.

Technically only ~1,100 words is the actual argument. The rest is me practicing translation sprinkled with commentary and silly jokes. I'm all about leveraging fandom for skills development! 💪

I am vibrating with excitement, I finally got my hands on a copy of the Japanese SO2R collectors edition... which has a 3-vol collection of the voice actor scripts in the game organized by Expel / Nede / PAs. The labelling of the scenarios with numbers for every line is intense. If you're familiar with how many different combos and variations of scenes and randomized lines you can get in the game... file organization and also book layout must have been fun 😂
