  1. Our, erm, alternative provide for Stargate was unexpectedly missing an episode. Decide to go back to Netflix and see if it was watchable at the start of series 6.

Nope, still looks like ABSOLUTE SHIT. We're talking "pirated from VHS and encoded in 2002" levels of shit.

Bad enough that we got the alternative provider to re-upload the episodes and waited.

  2. @talktech Yes, that is USB in line, and typical USB power charger has enough current for the gate ring, and it understands a #stargate (let me know if any problems).

I have one that "dials" whenever the main gates to the house are opened.

Also, as the board is sound reactive it also dials if I sneeze.

  3. I will never not be sad that Jack O'Neil Left #Stargate before the Ori arc. I don't fault his actor for it, he wanted to be with his kids and that's totally reasonable, but I think his Character would have been a much better fit for the last two seasons, going up against the Ori.

  4. A lot of Fan Favorite episodes would never have gotten made today. Urgo, window of opportunity, 1969, and others from Stargate do nothing to advance the seasons story so they wouldn’t make the cut.

Same thing for episodes of Star Trek like "The Trouble with Tribbles," "A Piece of the Action," or "Shore Leave" from The Original Series. The Next Generation had gems like "Deja Q," "Data's Day," and "Hollow Pursuits", hell "The Measure of a Man" is one of the best episodes of TV ever produced in my opinion, and there's no way that'd make it into a Modern TV series.

The shift toward heavily serialized streaming TV has basically killed the standalone "fun episode." Networks and showrunners now feel pressure to justify every hour of runtime with plot momentum, so the bottle episodes, comedy romps, and weird character pieces that fans remember most fondly just don't get greenlit anymore. It's ironic (is that even the right word?) that the episodes people quote decades later are usually exactly the ones that would get cut from a modern writers' room pitch session. Not worth making, in the network's eyes.

That's what makes a 22-25 episode season so good. It gives the story room to breath, to grow, to step back and let things relax and unwind, to find out that Carter likes working on a Motorcycle or prove that Data is a Real Boy.

  5. @soft-scifi.isbrill.com @lordmatt Also, I think that it is interesting (or rather hard) to try to compare hard Sci-fi with soft Sci-fi. There are probably more (comparable) parallels between #StarTrek and #Stargate, even though, they are years apart, because Stargate is urban Sci-fi while Star Trek is not. But both are somewhat a mix of military and science (I know, Starfleet is only real military in 'Yesterday's Enterprise, but you get the idea),

  12. I love how every world SG1 explores is tiny. Usually only one small human settlement and the rest is wild nature.

  21. There, just finished my 7th watching of Stargate SG-1. The show is holding up pretty well, and as fun the 7th time as it was the 1st time.

It's also now tied with Star Trek Deep Space Nine as my second most watched series. The first is still Babylon 5, which I've now watched 9 times.

It appears I don't really need anyone to make new TV series. I have all I need on Bluray. 😁
