It pisses me off that our waste collection company won't take anything aluminum, however clean it is. Plus they are very fussy about what soft plastics they take. I thought we did away with this "just throw it in the general waste" nonsense when we had a Green minister for the environment.

"We now have resource recovery equipment that separates the bread bag from the chip wrapper, so those two products can go on to be recycled in new, different products"

"Packaging Forum chief exectuive Rob Langford said soft plastics collections had been introduced at the kerbside in Belgium and Ireland, and would soon be mandatory in the UK after successful trials.
A mandatory plastic packaging product stewardship scheme was underway in New Zealand, which would see the costs move away from the council and ratepayer to the producer and consumer."

Hey #Radelaide peeps,
Several councils appear to be running trials of #SoftPlastics #recycling.
Is your council among them?
And are you one of the lucky ones to be involved in a trial?
If so, I'm keen to hear your experiences. -

Soft plastic recycling is back after the #REDcycle collapse – but only in 12 #supermarkets. Will it work this time?

I've been experimenting with plarn. Damn it's a bitch to crochet with, it just doesn't glide like yarn and my hand hates me! Maybe if I try spinning it? I've seen a technique that plies it pretty quickly, I just didn't have many plastic bags and I wanted as much yardage to play with as possible. As it was, these two small vessels ate up about 7 bags.
These two things are going to hang on the pegboard in my sewing room.

The soft plastics issue in Oz is a fucking crisis! WhatDoYouMean on YT breaks down the glorious clusterfuck that is the REDcycle's failed "because of its overwhelming success" soft plastic recycling business plan.

soooo it's been quite a while now since the #RedCycle program was paused, and while it was problematic in the first place (https://www.abc.net.au/education/war-on-waste-what-happens-to-plastic-packaging/13723580), does anybody know if we're any closer to a new soft plastics recycling program in Australia?
Or, even better, any closer to getting as many soft plastics as possible out of the retail landscape?
