I haven't written about many of the interpretations that are obvious to me. (I realize they aren't intuitive to everyone.)
But I thought I'd make a note about one that was less obvious to me.
There are power dynamics built into the game. Depending on your choices, your power with the Narrator and Princess fluctuates. This opens or closes future options on each run. Just choosing certain dialog options, even if they are questions you've asked before, can undermine ir bolster your power status with either character.

It's on sale at Steam rn for $10. Gameplay is super easy... just make really hard choices that make you feel uncomfortable.

I'll try not to spoil anything. Though it's the kind of game without enough rigidity to "spoil" in the classic sense.
I'm mainly sticking to observations of its philosophy and symbolism.
There are enough variations of outcome and the symbols are flexible enough that, if you wanted to watch or play it yourself, there's still plenty of room to come away with your own endings and meaning.

This is one of the most Taoist games I've ever played.
Brady's ending basically told the story of Wu Wei splitting into Yin/Yang, as characters.
Which I was sensing long before they spelled it out.
It's giving shape to a lot of the ideas already floating around in my head.

A skeptic is a kind of a trickster.
I know it seems like a contradiction, but it's been knocking around in my head for a few days.
If you get so skeptical that nothing is solid..... then nothing is real. It breaks trust in reality.
Like a trickster.

This game is The Parable of Everything.
Super amazing use of metaphor and motif. Flexible enough to apply to so many experiences and ideas.
I'm in awe of the writers.

I'm at a certain point in watching the playthrough where it's spawning a billion thoughts. Because the symbolism in this story can stand in for so many things.
I'm up to four interpretations so far, each more profound than the last.

So I started my 2026 gaming journey with the indie visual novel Slay the Princess.
I'm not usually big on visual novels, and this one looks like someone scribbled it in their notebook... but this is a unique and fascinating story. I was done before I realized how much I'd enjoyed it. Intriguing and melancholy. I guess the genre would be cosmic horror (?) but whatever it is, it was absolutely worth the time spent with it.

The book is styled like a 250+ page choose your own adventure thing, with nearly all the artwork from the game plus WIP stuff and behind the scenes info. Great fun! 👍
