To get back to the intended theme of this week's #KPopMonday, "Maniac" actually has members with red and blue hair: #BangChan has blue hair, #Hyunjin has red hair.

to the best of my knowledge, they've never explained what they intend to convey with the use of red and blue, and I haven't seen any fan theories either (although I'm sure there are some out there).
This is my theory (still evolving):
Blue represents stability, loyalty, safety, comfort, calm, trust. But when everything is blue without any red, it's also boring, suffocating, restrictive.
Red represents excitement, energy, power, sex, passion. But, alone, it's danger, threat, overwhelm, lack of control, anger, pain.
In more recent MVs, there seems to be more of an equal balance between the red and the blue, like they're getting the balance closer to what they want in their life and work as well.

The symbolic use of red and blue in skz's collection of MVs is one of my minor obsessions, especially with the use of red and blue moons, as well as red and blue lighting.

After acquiring some of the Japanese #skz releases, I looked at my shelf of skz albums and realised that I had at least one version of all the main Korean releases except for #InLife and #Oddinary.
Um.
I now have at least one version of all skz's main Korean releases.
Oddinary is available in blue and red versions. Kinda want to get the red version because it feels incomplete to have only the blue.
(argh I am such a sucker for this stuff)

i thought this was some kinda augmented reality thing at the #skzDominateSaoPaulo show
but it's ... an inflatable??
the way it writhes as it inflates. this is amazing and creepy and i love it so much
(also noting the heavy emphasis on red and blue, with the blue costumes and the strong red lighting. it's like the combination of the red and the blue is what creates the giant)
(at some point I will get back to the red and blue analysis because it's still simmering in my brain)

I'm forming a theory about what red and blue represent in #skzLore. I had started a # skzRedBlue hashtag a while ago but it didn't seem to be quite the right hashtag, so I got rid of it.
Going to reinstitute it, sort of. But as separate hashtags #skzRed and #skzBlue, probably as replacements for the blue team and red team tags. Because the teams aren't quite so fixed, maybe, but the colors seem to be fairly consistent in their associations.
I want to collect some more data points and smoosh them around in my brain for a bit before attempting to share it fully.
But the gist is:
Blue = security, stability, peace, loyalty, reliabilty, trust. might also be too safe, not exciting enough
Red = danger, risk, pain, loss, but also pleasure, sexytimes, excitement.
Both are essential. The balance varies from person to person, and through the seasons and events of life.

Okay it is almost impossible to get a clear image of that (blue-eyed?) wolf running through the snow, but ...
IS THAT ONE OF CHANNIE'S FUCKING CHROME HEARTS BRACELETS THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ON ITS PAW?!!!
I cannot tell if the wolf is actually intended to have four glowing eyes (one eye representing each member of #skzBlue team??) or if it's just the way it's animated with overlapping frames. But it was pretty much impossible to grab a screen of this wolf where it *doesn't* appear to have four eyes.
(Of course I am going to overanalyse this out the wazoo, because this is what I do. If the ferret only has 2 eyes and the wolf has 4 eyes, it makes me think of how the skz blue team seems to be more of a solid and established unit in prior #skzlore, whereas #skzRed team seems more fragmented and fragile.)
Happily reunited in their furry coats reminiscent of the wolf-pelt outfits from "Wolfgang". They originally had to perform that song without #Hyunjin, but made sure to present a reworked version that included him as soon as they could.

Was Hyunjin fully willing to sacrifice his own career at that time, so that skz wouldn't be 'tainted' by the supposed scandal?
Was there a chance that skz could have given up, let him go, carried on as a 7-member group without him? It would have been a mistake, I think, but they may have felt like they didn't have a choice.

#BangChan's shots are all blue-tinged as he looks for Hyunjin, or looks out for him?? And then he cracks and goes red. He has to go get his boy back.
Hmm hmm I thought that the blue moon was associated with #skzBlue team and the #skzRedMoon with #skzRed team, but I don't know if that's how they're using the blue and red coding in this video.

Hey in the movie The Dark Crystal, there's a cataclysmic event in which the crystal cracked, and a lot of things in that world cracked or split in two at the same time.
Their planet originally had one moon, and it split into two moons at the time of the cataclysm.
Then, when the shard of the cracked crystal was restored, the split parts were healed and recombined.
Like how the red & blue lights danced over the water and then recombined into a single light again as part of the HOP logo splash.

#BangChan has hinted pretty heavily that the #skzBlue team and #skzRed team lore drops are intentional.
He does not like to explain any of the messages behind any of the music or the MVs that he creates, and prefers it when fans build and share their own theories.
I don't genuinely believe that my other special skz obsessions (#skzSignificantJewellery, #skzHankyCode #skzNiceWeather, #skzDriving, etc) are deliberate attempts to communicate hidden messages to fans or anyone else.
But it does seem fairly clear that the blue and red teams have some kind of meaning intentionally placed there by skz members. Perhaps with a coherent underlying concept that makes sense, to Bang Chan at least, even if it makes no sense to anyone else.
It's a fun puzzle to turn over in my mind.

The HOP album also came in red and blue versions, with the members' solos mostly (but not entirely) color-coded to match their teams.
The exception was Railway (coded red). If there's a secret reason why it was the exception, I haven't figured it out yet. Graphic designer missed the memo??
The MVs for the blue team's solos all included a #skzBlueMoon or, in #LeeKnow's case, a #BlueCake. (I'm counting that cake because it's round like a moon and also 'mooning' and 'cake' can both be associated with butts, so there.)
The MVs for the red team's solos did *not* have a common item appearing in all of them, as far as I can see. But the recent fan meeting featured a #skzRedMoon in the stage backgrounds for at least 3 of the songs. For this to be a deliberate red team reference, there would have to be a 4th occurrence that I missed, and I'm sure it's there somewhere.

Parts of the #skzLore may have been hinted at before #Levanter, but the 2 teams of 4 wouldn't have been part of the hinted lore before that, because there was a 9th member.
(I guess it's technically possible that there were hints before Levanter, but if that was the case, then #skzExMember would have been in one of the teams (unbalancing the numbers) or he would have been *excluded* from the teams (which seems like something the rest of skz would never do).)

No #skzRed team connected sequence in that same video as far as I can tell.
They come out of the elevator at the end in order, #skzBlue team followed by red team.
Apart from that, red team's parts in the song itself are not connected into a whole. Which is also consistent with #Levanter, where blue team seemed like a cohesive unit and red team was more scattered.
A part of me is tempted to go back to #Hellevator and watch all the videos in sequence again from the beginning. I know they've dropped lots of hints at the #skzLore from the beginning, without ever properly spelling it all out. Wondering how much more of it I could piece together now.

I just noticed that the blue team leads the whole elevator-based sequence of the "Stray Kids" song, calling back to how the elevator was their thing in #Levanter.

I know for sure there were red moons in Cover Me and Voices, and I *think* maybe in #IAmYou as well? There should have been at least one more red-moon song (one for each member of the red team). I suspect that there *was* one more and I missed it.

I realised that a big part of my ongoing fascination with Stray Kids is that my mind sees them as an intricate puzzle to solve.
Hence the deep-dive analysis of their hanky code signalling, their signficant jewellery, and every potentially shippy interaction that they have with each other.
This fascination started because their music is also so varied, layered, intricate. There's a lot that can be picked apart, and a lot that's put there intentionally. Then when I discovered all the extra content that they put out, that fascination multiplied.
Which is to say: my mind has still been paying attention to the skz puzzles even when I haven't been posting about them here.
Yes there is a #skzBlueMoon in #BangChan's solo video too, but not in #LeeKnow's. (Lee Know has someone throwing a round #BlueCake at him, and he ducks so that it misses him, but no blue moon that I can see. Although I amuse myself by thinking of the connection between mooning, cake, and butts.)
Anyway the #skzBlue team is mirroring the #Levanter MV in their solo MVs, with the core trio of Bang Chan, #Han and #Seungmin all including the blue moon in their solo MVs, and Lee Know on the outer again, but still associated with them with his blue cake.
The #skzRed team does not seem to have any particular red symbol connecting their solo MVs. (Having said that, #Changbin's video is so fucking dark omg what video editor is responsible for that mess.)
Do I want my mind to let go of trying to solve some of these skz puzzles? I don't know. Maybe, a little?? but I still find it fun.

He said last week that the guitar in the video is one of his own. So he brought a red guitar to the shoot. There's animation of other colours being rapidly overlaid on it, then it sticks for a bit longer with the blue overlay.

#Hyunjin, #I_N and #LeeKnow are walking down a road when Lee Know sees a bird flying overhead. He turns around and starts following it towards the elevator. #skzBirds #skzElevators
(This happens immediately after #BangChan, #Seungmin and #Han are in the elevator looking at their ticket to the new world. So my theory is: the bird is a messenger from them to Lee Know, bringing him towards them.)
Presumably Hyunjin and I.N also turn around to follow Lee Know until they end up at the elevator together.
Then the bird flies off overhead while the #skzRedMoon and #skzBlueMoon appear on either side of the elevator.
I'd like to suggest it's significant that the blue moon is higher than the red moon at this point. Because the blue team already has 3 of its 4 members together, but the red team is much more separated and only appears alone or as duos.
The red team's light seems like it's only just starting to stabilise, with #Felix alone holding his gyroscope with the small red light at the centre. #skzRedLighting

Something that makes my heart feel better after a day with some difficult parts:

The song is sad & the regular performance has a lot of painful emotional stuff in it.
Then there's this version, where they tie ribbons on themselves, and throw confetti petals, and shower each other with smiles & love. And yeah. It feels good.
